Man, this is gunna get stomped on... not as quickly as the NS:S threads, but soon.

As to all this, the team hasn't made any official statements at all whatsoever about anything they're doing in their future at this juncture in time, so i wouldn't worry about it just quite yet.

    As far as I know:
    - NS might be ported on Source, depending on HL² success and playerbase. NS:Source would a free mod, like NS.
    - NS will have a sequel (NS2), which will be retailed, and on its own engine

Why go through all the trouble making a new engine when you can just partner up and use the Source engine?

Less on the success of HL2(as that is ensured), more on the way the SDK is built, to see if chaning is minimal. Hopefully VALVe did it smart <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Ooof. It's own engine? Built from scratch?

Man, i've heard some whoppers in my time, but that takes the cake.

I don't get why they would do that when they have tried and tested and flawless gaming engines out there... Quake IV, Unreal, Source, Monolith... it just makes no sense that they'd do that. Making a whole game engine takes too much work. HL2's been in development for more than four years already. Quake IV AKA Doom III has been in development for just as long.

Why would they do that when all these engines can do what they want right now?

PS: developing gaming engines (rendering, physics, lighting, ballistics, etc. etc.) takes a LOT of money. Tons. Like, a big concrete bathtub filled with pureed thousand dollar bills.

Okay, let's push Bill Gates off the Sears Tower so we can save his life! He'd have to give us lots of money!

They did not say they would use their own engine built from scratch. What they did say approximately, IIRC, was that they were currently evaluating their options as to which engine to use.

Well researched, Kali, there's not much to add. Only that 'publishern' is not an English word <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Alright, then post a friggin' sticki with these links about NS:S and say plainly that if HL2 is very well recieved and a lot of it's community migrates to it, then you all probably would too as a sign of good fanservice. Then you'd move on to a more ambitious project.

    Ups, fixed:

I'm watching the game industry for years now, I have contact to many ( mod )devlopers and I've some ideas in mind how Natural Selection should keep on going. I'm very interested to see if my ideads become truth <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->.
