Half-life 2 Being Sold Already
<div class="IPBDescription">IGN says so</div> <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->November 11, 2004 - Reports and rumors (depending on how generous you are with credence) are circulating online that various retailers in North America have not only received their initial shipment of Half-Life 2, but are even selling copies already -- days before the game's official November 16 release date.
IGN is currently unable to confirm that the game is officially being sold. We contacted local EB Games and GameStop locations, all of whom claim the game has not arrived yet. However, rather convincing photographs of the Half-Life 2 retail box and media have appeared online. Given the broken street date of games like DOOM 3, we're willing to believe that Half-Life 2 is already making it into a few gamers' hands.
Valve's hugely anticipated sequel is being distributed both by VU Games to conventional retailers, as well as directly from Valve over the developer's Steam software distribution client. Valve has promised to unlock pre-ordered, pre-loaded copies of Half-Life 2 -- sitting on thousands of hard drives as we speak -- simultaneously with the retail release.
Those who purchase a retail version of Half-Life 2 will still need to authenticate the game through Steam before playing -- a safeguard which is apparently "locking" those copies which have already been sold, leaving eager gamers with little more than some pretty packaging and a whole lot of hope.
Half-Life 2 has already become legendary -- for the anticipation generated, if nothing else -- and PC gamers everywhere expect the title's story, advanced technology, and gameplay to live up to the hype. Certainly all signs point to big happiness, and we remain as eager as anyone to get our grubby hands on this one as soon as possible.

THEY CANNOT PLAY IT!
Yes there is no HL2 love for the people with it as they can't authenticiate with Steam.
And Valve will not release it. Doing so with only slam them with a lawsuit / More ammunition for Vivendi in court.
Its so close yet so far

Water, water, everywhere... But not a drop to drink.
Edit: WoW is winning at the moment. That means I won't end up playing HL2 until like... Christmas. Or whenever I close the WoW client, whichever comes first.
Street date breakers should be shot btw.
Ok, you're right. Boiled alive. They're the ones that make trustworthy retailers look bad.
edit: and, oh before anyone asks, that cd is just the soundtrack, not the actual game.
Quite the question indeed.
Well the answer is here: They have annouced Vampire: The Masquerade will be releasing the same day as HL2.
November 16 ftw
I've scheduled a vacation for Wednesday so that I can wake up, scratch my behind, start up HL2, and spend the rest of the day putting the smack down on some aliens and devouring whatever artificial food stuffs I have in my cupboards.
Why not Tuesday? I didn't want to take the chance that Valve would pull the rug out for a day and also there are too many hunters at my work. They'll be chasing Bambi for 2 days. Then <b>I</b> get to hunt <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
What?

Wow, I can't believe they folded the posters. It looks like they made such a big deal with the gold package and all, but they can't even put the posters in a tube? Well, I guess most people aren't as picky as I am with my posters.
Um, HL2 is supposed to be available on Tuesday. Normally, I would take a day off and veg in front of my machine. Unfortunately, there are too many people with that day off already. So, I'm secretly hoping that they don't release it until late Tuesday so you buggers don't get the jump on me <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
