Future Ns

What will be?
I cannot wait the day when NS 2 comes out. All that big war and stuff on aliens home planet or in humans mining and trash dumpering planet what is fully infested with kharaa bechause it is big and many unknown places.
HL2 engine videos show that there can be very much movable things. Maybe even a flying furniture is in future NS, like a table what topples over when you shoot it. I am already imagining those dark corridors and hearing those "skulk steps" in somwhere vent delaying and in the darkest corner, one skulk drops a piece of ceiling down right on front of me and i fall down from my chair bechause of that. Or a really dark corridor and suddenly an onos with his mouth open stands right in front of me, face to face.
And then mass community comes in and things start to fly. Everybody are shooting with their HMGs and jetpacks are flying in big rooms like HMGed furniture and 10 onoses come into the room and there is blood and gore everywhere and doors are exploding and onos meat is flying everywhere.
People are just exited and NS2 is developing. Great maps with great lighning, everybody are playing that.
And some retro freaks like me are geeking again like "Hey, remember when those high textures came into NS and everybody were happy?", or "Remember those old jp sounds and those hiding places what were your last chance of surviveing in NS?". And then we go and play some NS, now abandoned and spooky. Those empty maps and shiny vents. Experienced and highly trained marine team is moveing in, only silent voice commands are heard, somebody presses the button, and there it is, that old good *beep* sound and the door opens with one OC standing behind it - old abandoned base is infested. Couple of highly experienvced heavyes start to shoot it, other three are guarding the place until cloacking onos comes slowly in and dissapears again into hive with that *gulp gulp* sound.
No CO maps, only NS and emptyness.
It is 3 o'clock in the morning and I open my steam. Few servers come up. And silent tactical 4-hour game begins.
5 years later some new guy steps into the old IRC channel and asking how tu run old games like HL on the new hardware system and on the new OS. He downloads lots of programs and screwes his computer totally up while little community is enjoyning the silent old good NS game with 5 player team on the old P4 computer.
Nobody is runing the game anymore, everything is silent and happy, it is not developing anymore. There is only a bunch of team who is happy with that small HL engine and who is running through all ns maps what got a good storyline behind it.
Ah, those old days eh

But I wonder how HL2 will be..
You, sir, describe exactly what I want NS to be, albeit in a less-than-perfect manner.
It'll be great, theres been many threads on this kind of thing in the General Discussion forums.
Remember this is still not supposed to be a gorey game - its family friendly or something Fear is always a good thing though.
Awesome.

*snonos is not an original idea - it was shamelessly stolen from someone much more 1337 than I.*

Sig material.
i am bored.
My computer always screws on me when the moment is high in NS.
I love how you continue to say that everywhere, yet always lack the ability to give reason!
Because we all know Gorges are made out of plastic.

Because we all know that you haven't seen the Quake 4 screenshots of the non-plastic people. The DOOM 3 engine is capable of a lot more than you think.
Or say your shots fall short and the skulk does tear into your face. Your low on health so the leap does the deed and your lifeless corpse falls backwards in the direction from which the skulk leaped at you. Awesome. Not that great an idea in terms of game play but very atmospheric.

where did you read that?? if this would be like that I'll stop playing NS. Based on the information the Kharaa don't have a homeplanet!! they exist because of the bacterium and this didn't came from a planet..it was from a sience area or something like that.
I don't like the "total war" idea. It makes the game more rambo like! I like the scary SiFi atmosphere and stuff =)
Gah, the Doom 3 engine couldn't cut it for NS. Think about it, In NS there is often dozens of structures and players in one place (and I've only ever seen 4 monsters in one place on D3). Do you think it would have the capacity to even render that much, with full bumpmapping and kickass lighting? There would only be a few thousand people out there with a rig able to handle it. And the netcode, as far as I know, just isn't suitable for something like NS.
I've started designing the next game. While it's still in its formative stages, I've written about 30 pages so far and am really excited about the direction.
I don't know if it will be NS2, NS or something else, but it will take place in the NS universe. It will be a full retail game, not a mod. It will probably be PC-only, have both single-player and multi-player and be written on a next-generation engine. No decision has been made on the engine yet, but we'll be licensing one.
It will likely take place in the claustrophobic indoor environments of NS and sprawling outdoor environments of both the TSA and Kharaa (human cities, alien swamps, forests, etc.). The settings are going to be much more varied then NS.
Both single-player and multi-player will be a big leap forward for the state of the art. If you thought NS tried some crazy things, wait until you see this. We're borrowing freely from the cinema and other game genres, so it should be a wild ride.
Starting a game company and then writing a game like this takes millions of dollars and is extremely difficult given the consolidation and escalating costs that are happening in the industry. A lot of the work behind it isn't game design at all, but fund-raising, pitching and promotion. We are hoping to really leverage the current NS community to help us.
You're going to have to wait awhile before you get to play anything, but with a lot of work and a bit of luck, we'll be able to make something you'll really enjoy when it's finally ready.

THE LORD SPEAKETH! NOW SPREAD THE WORD!
[EDIT] That post is now my desktop. Fear my nerdliness.

Awesome. Spread the word...
Can't wait for some more details on it though, but i understand how unlikly they are because games development can be really secretive.

The only reason you only saw a few in one place was because people's computers could barely handle it. As Quake 4 is hoping to prove, it can handle downright dozens of characters onscreen at any given time, with a good rendering piece and the kickass lighting flowing all around.
Nice to hear you Flayra. My question is, is do you have anything in mind for a Publisher? If so, it may actually be smart to look to VALVe for using steam(as we were discussing in another thread) as a totally capable publisher in and of itself. I'm sure you wouldn't be the first game on there(I'd bet we could see non VALVe products on there before the end of 2005), and it'd definately be a good way to get your old users back on, being we'll still have steam and NS around for decades to come.
Thoughts?
i hate u, some one had to say it, but i have to admit, u made me laugh at somehting i should not have
