I used to play a about a year ago, but for some reason stopped. I wanted to start again but cant update my Half life version, I downloaded the 80meg 1110 updater, but I'm still being told I'm not up to date, the in game updater tries to update, but says there isnt one available.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You cannot use the standard half life system (WON) any more, it has been shut down, now everyone is on Steam ( <a href='http://www.steampowered.com/' target='_blank'>http://www.steampowered.com/</a> ) download that and make an account, if you have games installed already it will attempt to port them over to the new system, otherwise you can tell it to download your games instead, you'll need to enter the relevant Valve CD keys to access the games and this data will be permanantly attached to your account.

Steam will then update the games to the most recent versions.

If you're on a slow connection I would suggest letting steam convert your updated HL installation automatically as it will save on a considerable amount of downloading.

With steam installed and an account created you should make sure Half Life is installed in the games list and run it once.

This done download the latest ns version for this site and install it, it should install to something along the lines of steam/steamapps/<username>/half-life (I believe the ns installer automatically detects this directory), all 3rd party mods should be installed here (valve games and mods have their own directory, you can recognise these as the entries on your play games menu).

Restart steam and you should now notice a NS entry under something like "3rd party games" in the play games menu (probably at the bottom, scroll down).

You can't download 3rd party mods over steam (yet), you have to get them off their own websites.
