$600 is pretty slim when you're looking at a monitor, speakers, mouse, keyboard, and computer to boot.

I think we may need to know a little more.

What you want is this, right:
Case
PSU
Mobo
CPU
RAM
CD-ROM
Do you want a monitor, keyboard, mouse, hard drive, speakers, etc.?

Edit:
I just upgraded my comp and got this for about $700 at newegg.com:
Athlon 64 3000+
1024 GB PC3200 DDR400 RAM
AOpen AK86-L Motherboard
Powercolor Radeon 9800 PRO PE (shouldn't have gotten this, I should have upgraded for $50 to get a normal 9800 PRO)
Case w/ 350w PSU

I thought you meant extras like media readers and dvd burners and fancy stuff, not extras as in the basic components of a computer.

I'd say go for AMD if its for gaming. I've got Intel purely because I'm doing more than just gaming.

Something like:

Mobo: Asus Mobo of some sort (They seem to be recommended)

AMD64 Bit doo-dah although if you want to save those pennys I'd suggest not going for the AMD64 bit ones and just go normal AMD

GPU: ATi Radeon 9800 Pro, fairly cheap and good bang for your buck

Memory: 512MB is fine for gaming but if you really want to have an improvement in loding times etc go for about 1GB (Kingston/Corsair are reccommended)

Hard Drive: SATA Drive of some description (Not sure which brand to go for here)

PSU: 400W is about normal

CD-ROM: Just buy OEM, these things are cheap as hell

Case: Antec are usually recommended But may be expensive.

That should be OK... Although feel free to tack on anything else like Sound Cards, etc etc

You can save a ton of money, but have great performance by going with a 120GB Seagate Ultra ATA. Cost me 80 dollars, and is 133mb compared to SATA's 150mb, so the difference is not much.

If you want a quiet case, get Antec Sonata. $130 sounds good. Heh? Heh?
An IDE HD might not be bad, I think.

Hi. I also need some advice for computer building.

I have a video card, PSU, HD, CD Burner/DVD drive

Things I would need to replace

Case- (No PSU, I have a Sparkle 400W)
Mobo- I'm thinking ABIT or ASUS?
RAM- 1 Gig maybe?
CPU- No Idea.
GPU- I should be set with my ASUS 9800XT
HD- The one I have should do

600 buck system

http://www.cyberpowersystem.com/highendsystem/dragon.asp?v=d

than get a 9200, 9600, 6600
geforce 4, cheap and descent basically, than all you need is moniter, which you can get for cheap

so 299+OS (69 if you get it with system)+moniter( 120) + plus video card (60)

so about 600 bucks in the end for a comp with a moniter, 40 gb hard drive, 9200 or so vid card, and a prettty damn descent cpu

You're going to break the best value for a computer with about an 800$ box, so if your brother is seriously considering spending 1600$ on a computer, I would recommend setting the low value at 800 not 600. At 600 you end up sacrificing that best value for your money purchases just to drop the price a few dollars.
