You are good! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> Go Chichifighters!
This thread is oh so smart. Incase you didn't realize, this is why the rest of the world hates you.
***Warning: OT post!***
As someone who has visited and lived in European countries several times, I have to disagree. In all the time I've spent in Europe I only had one bad encounter with an European, and that was due to my sister not understanding his accent. On the whole Euros are much nicer than US people. In fact, one German gentleman gave me 50 Deutch Marks (I know I spelled that wrong) when I was a kid - that was about $40!
***End of OT post***
And yeah, as for the question at hand, the US election had almost as much coverage in Canada as the Canadian election. It usually got the first 3-4 pages of the paper, while the Canadian general election got about 4-6 pages daily, sometimes a whole section. The only elections we hear about are local ones, American ones and British ones. The only reason I even noticed that Howard won the Aussie one was because of the forums.
Also, with the accents, I'd like to know what people define as a "Canadian" accent because when I was in the US once, people could identify me as a Canadian simply by the accent (which I obviously don't even notice) <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
The only ones I really cared about were Sadam Hussein and Kim Jong, 1 down...
I still don't get why people get so worked up over Bush.
I should know because i am 73h 1337 4u5513! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

sorry man, howard johnson is a hotel chain and i got em mixed up
Can I have your autograph?
This thread is an example of why. GG.
Though from the topic title, this really is flamebait, and should be treated as such.

As for the lead up, the Sydney Morning Herald had regular updates on the campaign trail for months and months before the election. (btw Sydney = Australia, just in case...)
On the little tangent we have going here about US/International relations, I don't think that the large majority of people here hate Americans, I think that they have great contempt for their attitude in some instances, and we sometimes find some of the things that come out of your great nation somewhat... humorous... I think that on the whole Australians have a great deal of respect for those Americans that show themselves to be above the stereotype.
My brother was recently in France and was mistaken for an American, until he spoke, and they realised he was Australian. After that they took him on and bought his next two rounds, so I don't really know about the French.
(as an offtopic to the offtopic, my family has found that the French have a great deal more respect for those who attempt to speak their language instead of just speaking English slower).
Edit for typo
Generally ignorance about countries outside of the US tends to not do any favours either; when people start thinking they're more important than someone else for any reason, be it birthplace, location, skin-colour, whatever then they're generally not going to be well recieved nor liked for obvious reasons XD
As far as the election is concerned it's in the news. No matter where you go almost all countries not in a state of poverty so bad people die from starvation usually have access to world-wide news so you'll find people tend to know what's going on in the world no matter where they are as long as they're willing to find out =3
Course the last time I was in america all the news and programs seemed to be about america so... yeah... we'd probably be better asking if you guys knew about our elections, though like you said you've been keeping some track of foreign affairs at least =P
On a fun note the French hate the english with unholy vengeance and the English hate the french. Add in the 'old alliance' which means that scottish people are welcomed with open arms by the french and your average scottish tourist can have an interesting trip of extremes in the funny country of france ^^
<b>French person:</b> ~dirty stare~
<b>Gem:</b> "J'habite dans l'ecosse"
<b>French Person:</b> "ah mon chere!!!" ~hug~
umm thats asking for grief... nobody is rude to the americans unless they deserve it...
some american family came up to me the other day and asked if i knew where somewhere was.. i sent them in the totally wrong direction... they addressed me as boy. i was not impressed lol.
but yeah i think everybody hates the french... im not flame baiting its only my take on things.. (p.s cereal killr still rocks tho)
the rudest people i have encountered are 1, southen americans. 2, germans.. this is only through personal experience though.
1, went to florida.. and the people there were amasing.. so friendly our stupid rental car broke down... a tow guy was driving past. stopped helped us out for free.
and... i got laid three times.. the girls there were really friendly. all i had to do was open my mouth., then i went to Texas.... and oh my god... you walk into a store and they act like you dont belong... then when i went to the counter with a camera, they said ' oh your one of them rich ones then?' 'rich what?' 'europeans, all the same' stupid redneck **** bastard... im english..
2, germans were very very rude to my mother. she is deaf... she can speak german fine, just hard of hearing, so when some german starts bleating on at her about something, she is having trouble hearing it.. lip reading another language when your english is hard... and then the woman put both hands on her shoulders and started to like yell like she was getting really irate with my mother. just really rude people basically
Howard Johnson? <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Edit: Missed post covering this already.
Unless you're English, in which case they ignore or openly mock you, whichever language you speak in.
Quebec is a different story, however. French speaker are generally (gasp) <i>friendly</i> over in Canada.
Yeah, my family has had some bad experiences. (:
Seeing that pretty much any western country has representatives on this board, a thread dedicating itself to how bad holiday experiences prove all inhabitants of country x rude, ignorant, or downright hostile is not only ignorant in itself, but also a tremendous flamebait. Realize this: Any group of more than ten people will include at least two obnoxious jerks. Nationality really doesn't factor in.
