ok, i need to know if you all mind cause i was banned from dod forums for doing something similar
i plan to take a ut2k3 model, then rebuild another model with the same shape just less polygons, then i will remap the textures and put them as models in natural selection
i need to find out if you all care if somebody does something like this or what

Unfortunately, there is a limited amount of control develeops have over their creative efforts, and if someone wants to screw with our efforts, then there isn't much we can do about it.

but since your game is non profit i guess they couldnt do jack shit about it
I would THINK that any recreation of their models without the express permission by them is strictly prohibited. However with such wide spread stuff like mp3's, warez, etc I can't really stop you.
Not that I'm condoning stealing.
*cough*
*shuffles documents on desk*
What model were you looking at? (Obviously the marines) Mr.Crow is mah fav ^_^
i just want to cut the polycounts and lower the image sizes and put them in another game, nothing really wrong with that
i was gonna do juggarnaut base for heavy and the malcom base for light, keep in mind they will most likely have new skins as well but bleh
Actually, your infringing on the intellectual property of whoever owns the rights to the UT2K3 models. This is basically plagarising their work. I can't stop you from doing this, I am just informing you of international copyright laws so you know where you may stand in the eyes of owners of these models.
As long as your not making any profit off of this, you'll be fine.
as long as im not taking credit for it im not stealing it, im using it for something else, thats like using a baseball bat for killing somebody, it wasnt meant to be killed with but you can still do it, i dunno i dont consider it stealing, i consider it using the public models to their potential
You
have
ISSUES
The law is a tricky thing, and it all depends on how anal the company and their lawyers are. I wouldn't risk it if I was you. Your best idea is use it for yourself if you want, but don't release it. Believe me, it's the intellectual property of the company and the creators, without proper legal documentation of you being allowed to use it, you're pretty much not allowed to. That's the law, gotta live with it.

Pfft, so long as he gives credit to the original modellers it'll be fine. The worst that could happen is that he'd be politely requested to remove the models.
