You have to: -Get resources (Sure np.) -Build a base (Np either.) -Get some troops (Duh I wanna crush someone.) -Train a Hero (What?! this is a RTS, no wait it's WC3 and it's RTS/RPG -_-.) -Know all those units their abilities/weaknesses/strengts (Waaay to much to learn.) -With micro you can really own!!1 (humpf, do I really have to give orders ALL the time to keep my units alive and kill the opposition?)
It's... just way to much to do, I find SC to be easier, more balanced, no friggin CRAPPY 3d graphics that require a good PC to run on, no weird Hero system (keep those hero's in Diablo and WoW, thank you.)
/Me had a lot of fun playing at a m8's house where he has a few 486's/Pentium 1's, so we invite some friends, and go play SC!
The rant about how Warcraft sucks thread is over there... oh wait that's right there isn't one. However you are free to make it. But please listen to Rice when he says he wants to hear WC3 combos and not people complaining about WC3. I used to hate it too, but even when I did, I wouldn't run into someone elses thread where he is discussing strats so that I can complain. It just ain't right.
*EDIT* That goes for everyone really. I mean, this just isn't the place. You want to speak out about what things in WC3 sucks? Go ahead, I'm all for it, some things in that game just tick me off. But you guys, let's talk strat, primarily WC3 strat, in this thread.
<!--QuoteBegin-Venmoch+Nov 5 2004, 06:30 PM--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (Venmoch @ Nov 5 2004, 06:30 PM)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--> I like Generals for that very reason. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd--> Amen to that. For those of us that prefer strategy over tactics, generals is a far superior game. Only problem is the LAN code sucks, badly. It's usually worthwhile to play over the internet even for LANS when the number of players exceeds 4.
But really, if micro is your problem, try generals instead.
What I've been playing is mostly Night Elves and humans, humans are good against undead for some reason. IMO Night elves are the best.
First you start with 5 builders (wisp's), put 3 in the gold mine and 1 to build altar and the last one to build moon well. Then get 4 more builders (thats the best you can afford after those 2 buildings) and put 2 first ones to get wood and the second 2 to gold mine. After that when the moon well is done, make him build Ancient of War, which depletes the builder. When the second one gets the altar, take hero which you prefer most (most players including me prefer the demon hunter for that close range power and meat shield). Then send him to build another moon well next to the other and build 2-3 more wisp's, and send them all to get wood. At this point you should have: Tree of life, 1 moon well (2nd coming), altar (hero coming) and ancient of war done/coming.
Send the one builder (which you should have left) to build a hunter's hall, and get archer upgrades, damage first and armor then. Then build 5-6 archers, and send them creeping with the demon hunter. Demon hunters evasion can really be helpful in big fights. Remember to use the moon well's to heal your troops after fight. You should upgrade your Tree of life asap after those units. This is a good start for both creeping and rushing.

Don't forget about items, I've seen players go through games having built a race shop, and NEVER purchasing any of the items from it. That extra health potion will often make the difference between a dead or a still fighting hero. Also, mana potions can give you that extra storm hammer or chain lightning to use in a battle <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Sort of off topic but one game a high level panada(Pandaren Brewmaster, Neutral hero) took out a undead army. It was panada vs 50 undead units. Panada won... (Now if I can find the replay.)

"Drunken haze" <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd--> Yeah and I can imagine panda beating an army of undead (maybe ghouls or something with low health) because drunken haze (It hits all nearby units in the area) + breath of fire (Hits all nearby units too) = some burning effect. So if he had level 3 breath of fire and at least level 1 drunken haze = doom for acolytes, ghouls, crypt fiend, necromancer(And their summons), and banshee . The panda must have had some mana potions or mana items, his health is high but not his mana, break of fire and drunken haze both have low recast times. His "Drunken Brawler" at level 3 gives a 21% dodge chance.
Also the panda's ultimate "Storm, Earth, And Fire" could kill an army.
build 6-7 peasants for wood and make a blacksmith aswell as a woodshop
keep making farms and build riflemen
upgrade and make priests/sorcerecess
upgrade long rifles for riflemen and make sure you have atleast 1 upgrade for your sorceresses and priests or else dont bother making them at all.
1 expansion should do fine
AND REMEMBER: Micro is your friend (micro- when a unit of yours is getting attacked, move him away from the battle enough so the other units attack different men, then bring that unit back. Do this for all of your men when there hp gets to about half. It takes practice, but youll get it soon enough.)
Reminder: Keep priests on autocast-slow, slow units being hit by the riflemens big dmg will down the units quickly. If youre opponent goes big units (abomb/knight/gryphon) then get polymorph for your sorceresses.

What I do for a good human 1v1 strat:
3 peasants on the goldmine
1 peasant on barraks
1 peasant on altar
when the barracks gets done make him build a farm
build 6-7 peasants for wood and make a blacksmith aswell as a woodshop
keep making farms and build riflemen
