A Compilation Of Custom Models?

Would there be interest in this?
Over the last year or two, I've seen a fair number of custom models used in maps. Origin's plants in the biodome, Lt. Gravity's ns_source is using some neat claw like thingamajigs, and they really do look good. Even silly things like cans and bottles I've seen in some maps.
I was thinking that if there was a place to accumulate them, they'd see more use in maps. A lot of work goes into these objects that are seeing a "one time use". They add some nice detail without hitting the w_polys, but do add to entity counts. (Useful for co_ maps perhaps?) I don't have any particular need for any myself atm, but if I was looking at them and seen something, I could think "hey, that'd look good in my map!"

TBH, I think there is some talented folks in the modelling forum, but they only make new versions of existing models most of the time. We should be provoking them into making map objects more often!

Not saying post them here, but if there is interest, perhaps create a sticky thread like the custom texture compilation thread?

Yes? No?

I think the only problem with this is that some mappers would include models without even crediting the original designer (or the team that went into making it).

I also think that some models give a very personal feel to a map, like the submodel (if it gets finished) for ns_altair and Gravity's various models. But if you played another map and (for example) Obst & Gemeuse's wasn't even credited for the very same mining vehicle (soon to be) seen in ns_source then I'd imagine that a lot of that hard work he'd put in would be lessened to some degree because some unscrupilous mapper had got exactly the same product with none of the effort.

I think it's really something that you have to ask the team involved in the modelling projects really. If they are perfectly OK with you including their work in a mapping model pack then you're onto a winn0r!

crediting the creators is allways a tricky question. seriously I would want EVERYONE credited for working on the model, the skinner as well as the skinmesher, as well as ME! a lot of effort went into these models so it would be a shame if this would be seen as naturally.
I started to create some custom models to give a little bit more detail to the map and add some things that never had been seen before. I wouldnt mind anyone using this models in a DECENT map. to ask for permission is another problem. once I used a nice dropship on ns_source but couldnt remember who did it. I didnt know who to ask for permission. ergo: I removed it and thought about an completely new model.

creating these models was pretty simple but there is a lack of skinmeshers and exspecially skinners willing to do anything. I dont have a clue about meshing or skinning so I had to rely on the help of other people.
if you guys would like it, I could also create a custommodel pack. but you would have to search meshers and skinners by your own ^^ and credit everyone

Okay, np. Proper crediting is tricky business. I always assume the best in people. I just figured I'd throw the idea on the table.

Edit: That link that chrono posted is close enough! Teach me to not search!
