Website Compatibility Issues

<div class="IPBDescription">Yar!</div> OK, so I have been working on a website for myself and I have just finished the layout. My nav bar is an image, and I used FrontPage to link the words in the nav bar to links. However, this does not work to well in FireFox. All of the links that I put around the image are off-center. I'm not sure how to get it to center on the image again. Any help?

BTW, my website is <a href='http://www.xenisis.tk' target='_blank'>http://www.xenisis.tk</a>

Frontpage is the devil in program form. Pretend you're a student and buy Dreamweaver.

You didn't bother to learn it? My god, that's ingenius. I wish when I was an infant instead of learning to use my legs and walk upright, I chose to crawl on my hands and knees for the rest of my life! THEN I COULD BE AS AWESOME AS YOU!

P.S. LEARN DREAMWEAVER DAMNIT. IT'S THE BEST THING YOU COULD DO FOR YOURSELF WEB-WISE... OTHER THAN LEARNING THE WHOLE MACROMEDIA SUITE.

P.P.S. The above post was meant in a joking fashion, however the advice remains true.

Just a little bit of advice: don't use absolute links to your own hard drive, and when making a navigation bar like that, you can use plain images and links rather than whatever it is you're using right now.

They are off center in IE also.
Its not a Firefox problem, its your problem =P
Simplest fix, cut up the navbar in to smaller peices and then just luse those peices as the links instead of trying to lay links over an image.

Learning to code from scratch/notepad is far better. Using visual HTML programs or office apps to create pages will create unnecessary garbage code that does nothing but waste bandwidth.

This may have changed in newer versions, as I havent used HTML editors for a few years now since learning how to code from scratch.

I agree with you on this, as I spent the first 3 years of my web development classes refusing to do anything on an HTML program without learning how to do it in notepad backwards and forwards.

    However I make the case that;
A.) Once you know how to do it in Notepad, the job is done, turn around go back to the HTML program, do it there, assuming it's a marginally good program, turn from designer mode to developer mode, and edit the source yourself.
B.) Save yourself time by simply making these edits, instead of doing everything in notepad / developer / source mode from the ground up.
C.) All the cool kids are doing it.

I started with Dreamweaver (that was 5 years ago) and just used it WYSIWYG style for a long time since it seemed to work pretty well for me. Eventually I became fluent in HTML (and later in CSS) and today I use Dreamweaver exclusively in the "code" view because of the color coding features and stuff like autocomplete which you dont have in notepad. I think overall using WYSIWYG editors is a good way to gradually build up knowledge of html by moving from the design view, to half and half, to the code view.

I'd kill for a simple explanation of CSS and <b>how to apply it</b>. Web tutorials have yet to put it in terms I understand. That goes for any tutorial, be it photoshop, fireworks, flash, premiere. You name it.

Perhaps you would indulge me. If you are willing to lead an idiot to water that is, and perhaps even thrust his head in.

Somethings are done way faster in dreamweaver than coding does, like creating and sizing tables, and throwing unsized images onto a page. Some things go just as fast if not faster in code, so a good designer will use dreamweaver simply as a massive timesaver. Since you still have just as much access to the code, and also some helpfull coding features.

Eh? I've made pages that allow you to drag and drop stuff to change the layout of the page purely on notepad. I pity the foo who disses notepad!

If you have good knowledge of HTML, CSS is very easy. I learned a great part of it in just a couple of days over the summer using <a href='http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0735714258/qid=1099404275/sr=8-1/ref=pd_ka_1/102-4413257-0797754?v=glance&s=books&n=507846' target='_blank'>this</a> book. <a href='http://www.w3schools.com/' target='_blank'>W3Schools</a> is also an awesome resource but its probably a lot harder to learn directly from that website.

The strength of Dreamweaver is it's versatility. You can use it as a pure text editor that has fun stuff like autocomplete and quick tag references and stuff like that, OR you can use it as a WYSIWYG editor, or anything in between. The point is, it's better than Frontpage <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
