But you can still reach us, ehh? What happens if you put in yahoo mail's or PHL's IP address:

    <a href="http://64.58.76.98" target="_blank">http://64.58.76.98</a> - YM

    <a href="http://207.199.1.102" target="_blank">http://207.199.1.102</a> - PHL

If they still work, your ISP's DNS or DNS provider is jacked up. You can call them to see what they are doing about it. If these links don't work, it's you. Reply back, either way.

What OS and network connection are you using?

Also, what do you get by pinging and tracing?

(Not trying to be insulting if you already knew these)

    1. Open command prompt (Start | run | type 'command' and hit {Enter} (no quotes)).
    2. In your command session, type 'ping 64.58.76.98' and hit {Enter} (no quotes).

If it says 'bad IP', 'unknown hostname', or 'Ping request could not find host', come back here and let me know. If it says 'request timed out', then:

    1. Open command prompt (Start | run | type 'command' and hit {Enter} (no quotes)).
    2. In your command session, type 'tracert 64.58.76.98' and hit {Enter} (no quotes).
    3. Copy and paste the results into a reply here.

    I'm running Win2000 with a broadband connection...behind a firewall...(not a firewall program on computer)

When pinging yahoo I got something that could be translated with 'request interupted'

BTW, thank you very much for trying to help me.

I get exactly the same thing when pinging  216.74.122.111 (rr.org) even though the site works perfectly for me. I guess that has to do with the firewall.

On your firewall (Linksys? Sonicwall?) you need to make sure that it is allowing outbound ICMP traffic. If not, you won't be able to ping or trace to outside IP addresses.

If it's still not working, I'd recommend talking to your ISP and making sure that they aren't having DNS problems today. You can also remove your Firewall from the mix and see if that makes a difference - it's configuration could have gotten jacked up and needs to be monkeyed with. Sorry about the delay in response - got yanked into a meeting.

No, I'm an MS Engineer. But I work on Citrix and Terminal Server mostly, so I spend a lot of time dealing with networks too.

hey don't talk #### 'bout MS, i use linux and windows 98 and windows is much more userfriendly, linux is really for advanced users. Linux has his advantages, but i'm sure that without Microsoft computers wouldn't be so widespread as they are now. Gah and it really is a lot more userfriendly, try to pla ya cd in linux, you have to mount that thing first, while in MS, insert and your good to go.

It all depends on what Linux thingy you have. <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->

/me had Linux once but not anymore.

Anyway, the network admin (who I really don't have any contact with) must have fixed the problem, because now everything works.

Thank you MonsE for all your help and moral support. <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

I'm just curious, what did you edit on my post? I can't see that anything is changed. :]

Your URL code didn't have a leading bracket, so it wasn't working. That and I put in a secret message in black on black text that says you like goat pr0n.
  • KassingerKassinger Shades of grey Join Date: 2002-02-20 Member: 229Members, Constellation
Oh, I thought I put that in myself.

edit] I mean the text about goat porn.[/edit]

WHoops, I forgot to put a bracket in front of the first edit.
