Another Computer Help Thread (yay!)

<div class="IPBDescription">Processors this time.</div> I plan on upgrading my computer's CPU. At the moment I've got an AMD Athlon XP2000 running at 1.6Ghz. I went to the computer shop today and the guy recommended the AMD Semperon to me. This thing runs at 1.7Ghz but if it's a newer chip then the 0.1Ghz difference maybe irrevelent. I'm not too sure about it though, so that's why I ask here. Is it worth the upgrade?

Rule of thumb is to not upgrade unless it doubles your current CPU power (upgrading to 64-bit would be worth it though).

Ah right. The thing is that I've never really bothered with CPU's before which is why I don't know these things <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> I would have to upgrade the motherboard to support 64-bit though. I'll go and look at some prices.

Sempron is crappy at Multitasking putting this into your PC would actually be more of a Downgrade like going from a Pentium 4 -> Celeron.
