In the end I went to the halloween superstore like all the other mindless zombies and bought a $50 grim reaper costume that I probably could've made myself for a fraction of the cost. Well, except for the mask and gloves, they are pretty cool. I'll be wearing this thing for years to come though in order to justify the cost.
Take it from me: Listen to the people on this thread because they have some good ideas for low budget high quality costuming!
