Predictable, but nice nevertheless. I bet it costs an arm, leg, liver, and a brain though.

Close... $500 for the 40gig, $600 for the 60gb. Preeeetty crazy.

I'm looking on the bright side, though, since I've never been and will never be able to afford an iPod: with the release of this puppy, odds are good that Apple will release iPhoto for Windows.

I love iPods but I gotta admit that something needs to be done to compete

Same price for same size, more stuff.

edit: something else than crushing everyone with huge marketing.

But Still No Damn Video

When will they release a video playing iPod, i really don't see the point of an iPod that can look at pictures.

The Black U2 iPod looks nice though.

What we need is iMovie for windows, that would rock.

And yah, I wish I could afford an iPod.

The Gmini 400 is just the model, the last two numbers show the drive capacity. So far there's only the 420 which means 20 GB. Plus Flash reader.

It's not huge but gets a normal sized music library with a couple of movies on there. And it's roughly the same size/weight as the iPod.

There does not really seem to be that much of a difference, the only thing thats new is that you can actually view the pictures on the screen, however, it is so small that it is not really worth $100 more than the regular 40GB iPod. And you can store pictures on that one too, along with any other data you want (but you guys most likely know that already).

It will get really interesting when they start making iPods that work as mp3 player, data storage, cell phone, camera, alarm clock and so on.

What I really like, though, is the Special Edition, except for the fact that its more expensive and it's U2 (who cares about U2?). I wish they have made the iPod in black and white from the beginning on.

The iPod is pointless, you can get a cd-player for a fraction of the price
• HawkeyeHawkeye Join Date: 2002-10-31 Member: 1855Members
You rich ****. We don't have that much money.
Go be happy with your kajillion dollar mp3 players.

I'll be happy with a nomad 2. Reasonably priced and it does a hell of a lot.

And, when you buy the cd player, you've got AT LEAST 200-300$ left over.

In the world where people magically have all the money they want, you might want an iPod

But in the REAL WORLD where people MAKE THEIR OWN MONEY it's important to make ECONOMICAL DECISIONS.

it's also important to notice that you don't make the "ECONOMICAL DECISIONS" for everyone.

Some people might consider that buying an iPod is a good decision.

I decided that shelling out those extra bucks was worth it, and by god it is. My CD's can collect dust, I'm tired of bringing piles of CD's anywhere.

edit: Sure the iPod is expensive, but I make it up in some other area where I don't spend as much.

How about a serious test with sound quality checks, ease of use, the actual playing elements (cassettes don't play themselves) and less useless stuff. I don't put my iPod in aquariums to know how good it is.

Well seeing as a cd is 700 MB and the average CD case costs $5 and holds 20 cds..
$50 player + $5 case + $5 for 20 cds = $60, and, yep, that iPod is still >$60.

Oh and stop wearing tight leather and get a jacket with actual pockets, whoa! that CD player is like so much easier to carry dude!

I have to say, I LOVE iRiver's customer service though. My brother's iRiver's HD broke because of exposure to magnets (we think, we're not REALLY sure about what actually happened) and he called in and now they are shipping him a new one. Amazing, huh? I was expecting much worse.
