Effectively Using Beacon

Bacon!?!?!
This strat has been discussed but I just wanted to bring it up again. There are times when as commander you want your marines to stay where they are, killing aliens in their hive or killing res nodes, etc. Instead those pesky aliens want to destroy your base and you don't want your marines to come back. What do you do?

Well you can fake beacon! This involves activating beacon and then cancelling it when it is almost done. This will work for people that know whats coming but if you are playing against common pubbers then u should just go ahead and beacon.

What are your thoughts on this strat?

PS. Make sure you don't recycle the obs when trying this!

well it works, unless the fade's intent on suicide and stays to kill the obs... then your **** if you cancelled the beacon...

Yes, this would probaly work better if the fade or skulk wasn't attacking the obs, or maybe if you had a backup beacon in the base.

    Its a good strat...

thats pretty much nothing realy debateable out.

although never underestimate dropping yourself a HMG/Medpacks and killing it yourself, or just shoowing it off. Drop catpack for increased effect.

I think it's a good idea to have a backup bacon-machine if you can afford it.

I'm not so sure a fake beacon would work on pubbers, most "random" pubbers don't care too much about dying so they'll just stay and try to kill whatever beacons.

yes as commander I always make sure I have some good gear. Hmg is real good.

they never expect you to jump out with hmg and heave armour lol

any base rush can be avoided with mt

however and early game base rush can be fatal

just hand out mines early and hope you have a marine who can place them well

Yeah, I mentioned that in my original post, this strat would work better for more organized play, common pubbers wouldn't be effected that much. Plus it would probably be better to just jump out and shoot their ****.

if I were comm, I'd build an extra obs at an outpost (it's good to have a second obs anyways). If a higher lieform starts attacking ym base, I'd make sure I drop a few shotguns on the ground so my incoming marines willbe sure to have some good firepower, start the beacon from the obs not in base, and then jump out of the chair to engage to Fade/Onos that's hurting my base.

I'd bet that the alien, seeing the LA/LMG commander jump out of the chair, will happily jump at the chance to kill the commander (because he doesn't know I've beaconed, and most aliens would jump at the chance to end the game right there and then) and meanwhile, the beacon will be going on. I'll probably die fighting the higher lifeform, after emptying my lmg clip into it. Then, around that time, my entire team will make an entrance, ready to slaughter that already weakened alien.

    Mmmm.....backup-bacon-machine...

When I'm a skulk, I just keep biting till I'm dead, or run out of energy. I'm usually dead before I run out of energy. Therefore I don't leave the base even if I hear the bacon call. Generally I would think larger lifeforms would flee though...

Its a good strategy, and I hate it when people say "Don't use it on nubpub servers". I only play pubs, and its worked on many an occasion.

I will sometimes drop an obs next to an RT in a hive. then elect the RT.
now I have a somewhat protected obs,(sometimes I try to hide it so they dont notice it).
Now I can also silent becon.
And since I dont have an obs in base, this is an open invitation to fades to come in and try and kill it. and they of course will usualy die due to the fact that the marine will usualy have SGs by the time they have fades.

I personally like jumping out of my chair after the silent beacon. It kind of ensures that the higehr lifeform will stay longer, and get damaged in the process.

I would suggest staying in your warm and comfy chair. Let the marines deal with what ever is eating your base.
