Finally A Ns_hazardcourse Has Been Made...

<div class="IPBDescription">Someone had to post this in here :/ !</div> Note to mods: The purpose of this thread is to draw attention and hype to one of the biggest things NS has ever needed. Also to place pressure on this map to make sure it is included...! It's also to discuss the implications of having NSPlayers having some kind of clue now when they pick up the game, and what difference it could mean for it's popularity.



Okay, anyhow for those who are wondering what the hell <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=83666&view=findpost&p=1295282' target='_blank'>I'm talking about!</a> This is the first tutorial ns map ever made. NS 3.0 wouldn't be complete without it. It looks awesome just from the video, you can see it's progress of the map made <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=76128' target='_blank'>right here.</a>

So yeah what do yout think this map will mean for nubs who pick up 3.0? Will they be more likely to stick with the game, and less new player frustration on the servers?

    There should be one made for the alien team as well ^^

    Maybe at the end of the hazard course, there will be a place where, as a gorge, you need to bunnhop to make a jump. That'd be cool.

    Yeah, I've been following the development of this hazardcourse since it started -- Meat_Popsicle has done an amazing job it seems, and I can't wait to see this in.

    great map, was about time.

    Now im scared about some things:
    The marine RTFM screamers,
    the "I've played the hazardours course, I know how to comm, do'nt eject me!" commander
    and the "what theres a manual? Only little children read manuals" aliens.

    Well I'm guessing that seeing as it's a single player tutorial you won't be getting much lag. As for average r_speeds etc. I guess that information is in the thread.

    From what I've seen it looks OK in terms of 'lag', not likely to completely chug your old timer out, but it wouldn't hurt if someone went over it with a fine toothcomb to check for visible null faces and optimise the brushcount.

    To be honest it really won't matter that much if it's only a single player tutuorial, maybe the next step is a multiplayer map for the nubbinses to get to grips with!

    If they started in MS and the doors didn't open for a minute they'd be able to throw down some structures and get the basics built while also guiding them to the first res node (one MS doors is closed, the other is open leading to RT#1 with the door beyond that closed).

    But I'm guessing the first thing that's needed is the Alien Tutorial. Any volunteers?

    Lets just see if the Marine tut makes it into the game first kids, before we get carried away. A lot of great suggestions with (on the surface) seemingly simple execution have been made and rejected or been ignored. A hell of a lot more have been capitalised on, so I'm not complaining, I just dont think we should get too excited until the powers that be comment on it.

    I think this deserves praise whether it gets in or not. I'm sure as hell not gonna use it, but I'm sure any new player with the option of downloading this tutorial map before going multiplayer (unless he's in a cybercafe/LAN/private server with friends) will take it, enjoy it and value it.

    What does it matter if it isn't made official, it's still gonna mean fewer nubs in servers so therefore a higher standard of PUB gameplay and also will encourage and keep more people playing NS.

    Sorry tell me again -kid- why I shouldn't be excited?

    Yes, this was done excellently well, from the mapping to the atmosphere to the in-game sprites. And even though I didn't follow its development in the latter stages, isn't there still a psuedo-firing range?
