Mini-rant
A little advice to anyone in the Seattle/Tacoma area; don't get Qwest Wireless DSL. It's insecure as hell, even if you happen to use WEPS encryption.

They better give me a god damned refund.

I'm in Bellevue. Get Comcast: blazing fast, no problems. Almost no outages, especially recently. It rawks.

Comcast in Tacoma is alright, I wouldn't know fully though since I'm sharing the connection with another comp.

WEP encryption? You're kidding, right? That's crackable in anywhere between 10 minutes and 10 hours, depending on the amount of data being sent. I.E, its a friggin joke. They could at LEAST use WPA.

It's not outages I'm worried about, it's the people in my neighborhood who can hack through my WEPS encryption and use my box as a cover ISP for all their legal and non-legal shenanigans.

WPA was an option, along with WEP+802.1x, but I couldn't use it seeing as the wireless reciever I got for my GF's pc wasn't compatible with WPA. Just plain 'ol WEPS.

Cable and me have only bad memories. I'm not sure if I'm ready to mend our once turbulent relationship.

Hah, someone is probably stealing your bandwidth right now. I didn't even pay attention to the fact that you were talking about wireless internet until I read those links. I knew a bunch of people who used to leech off of random people's wireless connections. Scary stuff. Surely there is something you can do on your end though right?

Quick solution: Find them. Kill them.

Difficult solution: Let your ISP track them down.

Right now I'm opting for the former.

    Funny solution:

    1) Find a lot of elephant porn
    2) Wait for someone to leech off of your connection (They get connected to the network, don't they?)
    3) Give the leech a nice little gift in at least twenty different folders on his drive so that it's difficult to get rid of.

    1) No
    2) I only found out about it when my ISP called me and informed me that they had detected a breach in my network (they had detected him break the WEPS encryption, accessed my network, and use my box as a cover for his activities. I'm assuming it's a man because I know of no female hackers).
    3) Again, no
