The graphics are incredible. The AI sounds phenomenal. The battle system promises to be at least less of a failure. Now if they actually manage to tell a story this time around, I might be interested.
Well, the graphics quality will (porbably) get reduced, this is plain too much. I hope this will be more entertaining than the last one. I played it for a long time though, but it was never real fun.

It was the whole world, there was so much to do, explore and kill. It's the closest to an MMORPG without the MMO part. Ontop of that, finding new views, new towns and new sights to see made it all worthwhile.
The only thing I didn't like about Morrowind was the job system. The only one I played was the "Army" job, and my beef with that was that you never took part in any battles. Mind you, the country wasn't at war, but I really expected some better missions other than "Find X. Kill Y." If I wanted that, I'd have joined the Fighter's Guild. Maybe with the Emperor dead, the army will actually have to do some work. Battles with your fellow soldiers against demons trying to hold them off so that the villagers can excape would be kewl.
Morrowind was too broad in many cases. It wasn't that it was too complex, it was just that it had so much stuff, and none of it was focused on at all. The main storyline was barely focused.
On a similar note, check out the discussion of the decision to only have bows as ranged weapons in Oblivion on RPGCodex. RPGCodex is a good site, but the forums are so appealing and fun to read because it's full of opinionated jerks. It's a riot. Every other thread is a flame war between moderators. Have fun! I laugh my arse off everytime.
glad to see normal mapping is being more and more widely used

I've played Morrowind multiple times, including a time when i did nothing but focus on the story, and if you do that, it does get pretty linear and each quest lines you straight up for the next. Most people just get bogged down in the size of it all, but if you put a little bit of concentration into what you're doing, it's not a problem whatsoever.
I guess Morrowind should at some point tell you to keep in mind what you're supposed to be doing, but i thank christ it isn't just entirely linear like, for example, Fable. Don't get me wrong, Fable is an amazing game, but literally everything, including side quests, just leads you along the main story, it even tells you a lot of the time that taking such and such quest will lead you on the story.
Out of the several times i've played Morrowind i'm certain i've not done all of it by far. Out of the dungeons scattered across the map (over 100 of them) i've done about two of them at the most, and i've really not even explored the entire of Vvardenfal yet, let alone Solstheim or Morrowind itself.
To play Morrowind you need to let go of your experiences with other games. You're not going to be spoonfed the story and you're not going to be led around by the hand. You will get lost, you will get sidetracked, but that's what makes the game so damn fun.
