Archmage...

Does anybody remember it?
Archmage was a web based massive multiplayer strategy game where you took care of land/villages, and you would research magic, create structures and train troops for battle. I really enjoyed the game. It was turn based I guess; you would accumulate a turn every X minutes (varied from 5, 10, or 15 minutes), and doing certain things cost a variable amount of turns depending on what resources you had.

Another off-shoot of it (by the same company - Martel) was Archspace, who's website appears to be down. This version didn't really interest me, and Archmage took a back seat in maintenance and development to Archspace.

Sadly, to the best of my knowledge, the company that created the game basically fell off of the face of the earth. The last game I can remember playing of Archmage was back in 2002.

Now comes this topic: Does anybody know of any games that had similar gameplay style as archmage (or even archspace...) that are free? I really enjoyed this game, and I can't find anything like it...

I used to play this little bit, and was terrible at it.

Other similar games, which are still running, are Utopia and Earth 2025. I rather liked Utopia since it's time based rather than turn based, and you start in a kingdom rather than all by yourself (so there can be all sorts of internal kingdom politics).

Another webgame that's a totally different genre is Space Merchant, which is good fun for a while.
