Constructive Crit please, try not to make it sound like I am a crap mapper (even though I am, but you get what i mean... ?)

    are those working texlights i see? if so , thats the first time i have seen a newer mapper use them on a map. good job <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    the map looks pretty good for being a crap map (as you say), it isnt the standard light entity fullbright new map.

    my advice would add some more detail to the map (rails, wires and walls that arent flat)

    but keep working on it, i think you have a good custom map going there.

    thanks - I've made my own sky... yet it doesn't show :s

    it's a .tga

    I've tried both cl_skyname and skyname, when i tried cl_skyname it used another sky... I am sure there isn't another sky with the same name as mine... *double checks* nope :s

    I ain't a total nub, I got used to things first and read alot of things in here seeing people using entities rather than texs - so just went with what people said (which was to use texs <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> )

    for a first map this is really good! i cant really see much texture alignment mistakes - maybe because that grey light makes it all look like a rainy sunday.
    Simply play around with the rgb values of your lights and texlights, you should raise the intensity of the colors and give it more color (less grey) - if you want it look clean, use white light.
    Keep it up, your architecture is nice.
    edit: i just wanted to state that you should only make about one ore two screenshots per room, just go to a corner where you have a look all across the room and shoot that screen <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->. Quality over quantity.

    Do you have 6 *.tga files (for every direction). If you look in the ..ns/gfx/env folder you will see that skies have each 6 *.tga files. For example skyname_dn.tga, skyname_up.tga, etc.

    Now when you tell hammer what sky you want to use you have to write it without the two characters (up, dn..). In that example one would type <i>skyname_</i> in hammer's map properties / cl_skyname.

    Good to hear you've actually read the tutorials/guides etc. first.

    Everyone's gonna moan at you for using the 'eclipse' textures (especially the logo), except me.

    Some of the textures don't go together the vertical door for example, don't be hesitant to investigate some of the other HL WADs. I'd especially recommend downloading some HL Single Player stuff to see if anything would suit your intended style.

    You've obviously grasped vertex manipulation, but it's still looking a bit basic so try being a bit more adventurous with the architecture -it's looking a bit QuakeDM at the moment.

    A promising start from someone who hasn't just asked for handout tips on basic mapping. Thankyou for being so refreshing <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    The eclipse logo is not to be used in other maps. Best if you go ahead and remove it now.

    Like I said. I think I'm gonna make my own TSA-modified logo so that everyone can stick it in their maps without fear of being ostracized. I'll be nice and ask simply for it to be credited as mine...

    Of course none of this will actually happen until I'm re-united with mah poor PC.
