Spawn Killing

<div class="IPBDescription">Defined.</div> OK people, time to get something straight. (RANT mode on)

What SPAWN CAMPING is NOT: Just because someone kills you in your base doesn't mean they're SPAWN CAMPING. In combat for instance, say a player attacks the enemy base. Respawn rates are fast, and if this player is aware, he can be ready for when people spawn in and kill them... BEFORE they kill HIM. IF the player DOES NOT KILL THEM, HE WILL BE KILLED. This is just common sense. It would be MORONIC for the player to simply chomp on the cc a couple times and then die like an idiot. Or use his entire clip on the hive and then get munched by spawning skulks. OR in regular NS, as a skulk munching on an IP, who then stops to time the bites right on a spawning marine. THIS IS COMPLETELY ACCEPTABLE. If marines have no base defense and no one to protect it, they should die a horrible death and lose the game, dying as many times as the skulk feels like, to help win the game.

What SPAWN CAMPING IS: Your team is level 10 in combat and the aliens are all level 2-3. You sit at their hive and kill them as they spawn to laugh and call them noobs. Your entire team is in the hive and refuses to shoot it. This is ridiculous, tempban these morons. OR, you're marines on normal NS. Aliens are down to one hive, are all skulks, and your team is all HA/JP HMG/GL LVL 3/3. Yet marines do not kill the hive. Instead they build 10 tfs to electrocute it to death. Tempban these bastards too. OR Marines are down to one IP and everyone's dead, including the commander. Five oni stand over the IP and devour the marines as they come out. They do this for a whole minute. You know the deal, tempban.

I'm SICK of attacking the other team's base in combat and whenever I get a kill it's WAAAAAAH SPAWN KILLING WAAAAH!

Shut it you noobs!

    Hey, he's right.

    Its funny how in his positive point hes uses an example of an alien spawn camping a marine and in his negative point he uses an example of a marine team spawn camping aliens.

    Surely my friend, if that skulk is spawn camping Marines it will turn into the senario one your second point anyway?

    In fact a skulk could have focus, and regen by level 4 which isn't too hard to get in a spawn camp and vanilla marines are going to have a problem trying to kill them in one bite.

    he has a point tho. Simply, play fair and remember it is only a game if you are losing. No reason to cry but play fair or else it is no longer fun.

    Well, after a long and hard fought battle I usually allow my rines to cat-knife the hive with ha.

    Is it lame <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> Maybe, but since everyone has the chance to do it you need to accept it.

    Whether or not he's right is debatable, and his choice of words makes JHunz's response very fitting. I personally feel he is right; so long as an attempt is made at killing the hive or command chair, I don't think it's "spawn camping." Whether it's one marine who shotguns the hive while another takes care of spawning skulks, or a group of marines who put half of their clip into the hive, then saves the other half for the next wave.

    I also, however, feel the marines can much more easily spawn camp the aliens than vice versa. This is simply because one marine with an HMG can obliterate five skulks with little to no problem. The alien's equivilent would be focus camping, which can generally yield one, two, and sometimes three kills before the alien has to retreat or dies. I am talking about solo spawn camping here; group spawn camping isn't really common place where I play, but it is a cheap thing to do.

    Personaly I feel a very short amount of spawn invulnerability would be perfect. Just about a half a second. Enough for skulks to leap away, or marines to be able to turn around an aim, but not enough to attack and kill whatever is in your spawn area and remain invulnerable the entire time. Also there should be a countdown display (similar to what was on Cheesy's respawn system) for how long until you will spawn.

    Lastly, for ns_ mode, I don't really see much wrong with spawn camping within reason. Marine teams setting up base in the hive just to kill spawning skulks I would have a problem with, just like I would have a problem with onos camping the infantry portals devouring and goring everybody who spawns with no attempt to kill the IP.

    There is a magical switch to end it all!
    put this in your userconfig.txt

    //====================================================================================
    //wait a lot
    alias "wlong" "wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;"

    //Nice way to leave a server
    alias leave "say [Later folks!];wlong;disconnect"
    bind "F10" "leave"
    //====================================================================================
    Press F10 and you will leave this horrible world full of sadistic people....

    Just FYI, this is GPs stance on spawn camping.

    <!--QuoteBegin-Emanon+--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (Emanon)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Spawn camping is only valid if there is some other objective. Like building PG, killing the RT or hive.

    If spawn camping is the only objective then that is a problem. As almost any good marine with enough ammo could end the game.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Reason for this ruling is because both teams can spawn camp but one has beacon one doesnt.
