I don't think anyone's saying "it's funny because it says emperors are the same as pirates, which is ironic in light of the current international situation!"
I think/HOPE that most people are looking at it and saying "wow... that was bizarre." At least, that's why I thought of it. Bizarre. And rather silly. This is why radicals on either side of the fence do nothing but make their more moderate "allies" look bad.

But unfortunately that's what happened. In regard to Saddam, at the time, he didn't look like that bad of a guy, the Baath party was for the most part secular so it was sorta welcomed by the western world and at the time the Ayatolla was the threat.
