say theres the humans and the aliens... then theirs a bunch of bounty hunting humans or rebels or something or a bunch of aliens that have been exiled for doing naughty things? then you could guard against two attacks at once, and say commanders could make gheeto aliances then backstab the enemy if they see their weakend?
