Obtention Of Steam Silver

<div class="IPBDescription">or redudancy of Back Catalog</div> Admitting I already have the Half-Life pack with everything (apart CZ) and I intend to buy soon my Silver HL² pack. I would then have two legal copies of Half-Life right?

Now for people who already bought Silver or Gold, do you get another key or does it check whether you already have or not HL? I am thinking of giving away my account and opening the HL² pack on another account so I can give my current steam (with my old copy of HL) to someone and then use my new account in order to play with a friend who doesn't have HL. So basically, what happens when you get Silver? Everything opens up in Steam or are you presented with a set of keys for each game? Do you own two copies of HL or does it just fill up what you're missing?
I'm spending 60 bucks here and I want them to be used to their full potential <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    As I understand it, you can either buy hl2 on your current steam account, which just opens up your access to all the hl2 content on that steamID, or you can start a totally new steam account with a new email address and so on and get hl2 on that, giving you a totally seperate steamID and allowing you to sell or give away your old copy.

    Having two steam accounts wouldn't be a bad idea. Certainly with all the people using multiple gmail accounts, this would be no hard feat.

    Buying online gives you no keys and you cannot transfer games from an account... if you wish to give away your existing copy of hl and the rest you need to create a new account and purchase HL2 Silver on that, passing the old account to another person.

    This is exactly what I have done with my ATI HL2 voucher. (Now upgraded to silver.)

    I still have 2 lan PCs requring their own steamID
