    I love how gender is optional on the internet, and I choose to be turned on by gem.

    And still no Aussie beta on the horizen, or indeed an Aussie server. Given that the servers are going to be forced (i.e. Depending on your region, you can only connect to your regional server) this bodes for Australia. I have horror images of Australians forced to play on Malaysian and Taiwanese servers. Not that I have anything against people from those countries, it's simply a language and lag problem. Mainly because every single freaking internet signal out of Australia is routed through the US west coast. Except sattalite. And even then it's probably orbiting over the US.

    My guess is that it will work the way the Stress Test did: you will have to have a (free) Fileplanet account to get a key. It's a sensible system for Blizzard, because it saddles Gamespy with the task of distributing keys to legitimate users (you have to pass a "enter the letters you see" test to get a key, to prevent bot registrations). Gamespy has the server infrastructure to handle that task, and Blizzard only has to worry about processing legitimate keys and handing out game accounts.

    <a href='http://www.worldofwarcraft.com' target='_blank'>News from the front!</a>

    Apparently, server maintenance of two varieties is happening very soon:

    1) the closed beta servers are going down tomorrow for 4 hours, and Friday for 10 hours, for maintenance.

    2) the <b><i>sign-up and account-creation servers will be going down</i></b> "in preparation for Web-infrastructure updates." Sounds to me like they're getting ready to process a huge influx of registrations! Watch out for WoW to go live Friday afternoon or Saturday.

    Then again, it's possible they won't do it right before/during the weekend, and will wait till Monday. But my guess is it's coming soon!!!!

    And, again, you'll likely need a Fileplanet account to sign up.

    No, I would bet one of my toes that this has somthing to do with the open-beta infastructure, and from the looks of things, it'll be a big turnout if they need to spend a quarter-day minimum on maitence. This sounds good, very good. As in there won't be any user limits AT-ALL. AKA, we won't have a closed open beta where only fileplanet subscribers will be able to get in, but literally anyone will be able to test it. Blizzard, at least, better allow a goodly number of people on the beta if not infinite if they know what they are doing. Betas = PR. The bigger the beta, the more PR. The more PR the better your final product does.

    Good news, bad news, and worse news.

    Good: there's a new "push" (patch) on the way. The following is a partial feature list; there will be more than just these:
    <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->--Hunter Talents and improvements
    --Pally Talents and improvenments (very cool changes!)
    --Some *awesome* changes to the warrior
    --Tons of tradeskill polish
    --Lots more quests... newbie zone polish, plus additional Horde
    content in the re-vamped Kalimdor zones (ashenvale, desolace,
    stonetalon, etc.)
    --More flight paths
    --More Graveyards
    --Onyxia >=]<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    Onyxia is a raid-instance, a full-fledged Dragon requiring anywhere from 20-40 player to take her down.

    Bad: Caydiem, the assistant Community Manager, has said that the devs do not know when open beta will begin. One poster on the WoW forums put together the following educated guess:

    1) Open beta usually precedes the game going Live by a week.
    2) Current ship date, according to EB and Gamestop, is 11/16.
    3) The game needs to go Gold a week before ship date.
    4) The developers have said the upcoming patch won't be this week.
    5) Patches have previously come on Friday or Monday, which would put the most likely arrival dates as 10/29 (this Friday) or 11/1 (Monday).
    6) In that poster's opinion, Blizzard will want to test high-end patch content for about a week before going gold.
    ---conclusion: open beta and Gold will likely coincide, and will happen around Nov. 8-10th.

    These are assuming that the coming patch will be the last major one before release (and that Blizzard will plan to require a patch at release). Best case scenario is that Open Beta will coincide with the new patch, in hopefully less than a week. Worst is we're waiting another 2-2.5 weeks.

    And now, worse news:
    Vivendi apparently told press that WoW's release date has been changed to Nov. 22nd, to avoid conflicting with Half-Life 2. Since Vivendi owns both titles, it's a logical delay to make, but it still sucks. It also could delay the Open Beta still further (or, to find the silver lining, allow Blizzard to hold a 2-week open beta instead of just one week. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->).
