hmm
Alright. I recently was given a 512 stick of PC3200 DDR 400 of corsair xms something or another, I already have a 512 stick of PC2700DDR 333....now Here is my question. My processor is an Athlon XP 2800+ that is 333. I know that I can combine the ram, but would I get better performance using only 512 of the PC3200 or use 1 gig of downclocked ram to 2700. I can't figure it out.

get pc2700 ram, get the same thing as what you have right now, but get 1Gb. Running great ram and crappy ram together in the same machine is bad, its also an overkill because your processor doesnt have a fast FSB.

the pc3200 is designed to be able to do 400 fsb. that in no way makes it unable to do 333 fsb (pc2700).

put the pc2700 in the first slot (nearer the processor), so that it takes precedence of speed. put the pc3200 next to it, and it will assume the speed of the pc2700. everything should work great from there.

different brands of ram occasionally can be unstable together, this is rather rare, but you can check it with a bootable floppy diagnostic tool from www.memtest86.com (or wait to see if anything crashes
