How Do I Temporarily Disable My Icon?

If I wanted to temporarily shut off my Consty icon, how would I do that?

I'd like to have a way to turn it on and off quickly (not in game, of course).

wouldn't auth in your autoexec work?

He obviously can't cope with the constant attention and praise those who donate to NS gain.

    Or people asking him if he's a admin and then to change map <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

How do I use the auth command?
  • Cereal_KillRCereal_KillR Join Date: 2002-10-31 Member: 1837Members
in the console, just type auth and enter. I dont know if it works in a .cfg because I heard it didn't work before actually being ingame.

Maybe bind it to a key and press it the instant you're on the server

Once you typed "auth" in the console, the icon doesn't disappear immediatly. You can either wait, or change team (this includes typing F4 while being in readyroom, or joining a team from the readyroom), as far as I remember.

auth in my userconfig file definitely doesn't work. I need something that just plain turns it off before I join a server. I know a lot of vets do that. Does anyone know how?

Bind a key to "auth; spectate; readyroom" and use that on servers which don't have mp_blockscripts turned on.

Otherwise, just bind it to "auth", press the key that makes you spectate (F3?), then press the key that takes you to readyroom (F4?).

This way you'll instantly get rid of your icon.

Some servers have delays on going back to the readyroom, so on those just join whatever team you want to be on or wait for 30 seconds (I think) for it to switch off.

simply turn it off everytime you join a game, I do that sometimes if I'm looking to pub and work on a skill that I'm pretty bad at.

Open up your console and put in "auth". To do it automatically just put "auth" in your autoexec.cfg.

It shuts up anyone complaining of icon stacking. ^^

Do you turn it back on same way? How do you cycle through icons?
  • KaMiKaZe1KaMiKaZe1 Join Date: 2002-11-18 Member: 9196Members
Yes, it's turned on the same way. I'm not certain that you can cycle icons.

it's not possible to cycle icons, it always picks the highest ranking one

How do I make an autoexec file?
  • DC_DarklingDC_Darkling Join Date: 2003-07-10 Member: 18068Members, Constellation, Squad Five Blue, Squad Five Silver
go to your sierra NS folder.

    make a file called autoexec.cfg NOT autoexec.cfg.txt
There you have your file. Make it in notepad, no layout.

    In your userconfig put this:

    alias icon "auth; spectate; readyroom"
    bind <key> icon

Replace <key> with the key of your choice, obviously. Upon entering any server, hit that key to turn off the icon. This will work on bs 1 and bs 0 servers.

Thanks. I don't play on bs 1 servers anyways. I did what the other person said. I auth, go to spectate, then come back to readyroom os my icon disappears immeidately.

and autoexec is fine, but userconfig is better because you can create "userconfig.cfg" and dump all your configs there, because the config.cfg has "exec userconfig.cfg" as its last line.

The icon will dissapear when your stats update, or ranking updates.

To put it more clearly, yes, it will go away instantly if you go spec/readyroom, but it's wholly unessicary. One kill on your team, and the "rankings" are updated (The order you are put in on the list is your point total), and your icon dissapears.

Well then the "script" for in game switching should look like "auth; kill" :-)
  • ChurchChurch Meatshield grunt-fodder // Has pre-ordered NS2 Join Date: 2002-12-31 Member: 11646Members, Constellation
Well, I would swtich at the beginning of the game, not in the middle. I'd just go to specatte and come back using my script.
