9800 Pro Display Drivers

I have no idea why I cannot install any 9800 Pro drivers (either from the catalyst CD or a driver pack download from ATI). Whenever I try to install them, I get this error message- "Try to set up your display adapter with a standard VGA driver before running setup." But then, my computer gives me an error in the Found New Hardware Wizard window saying that there was a problem in installing the Video Controller (VGA Complatible). So, this is where I get stuck. It seems that I don't any any kind of basic VGA driver installed that my computer recognizes in order to install the ATI drivers. I don't know much about computers so yea, I'm desparate. Thanks.

Wndows XP Home
Athlon 2100+
Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb

My friend had this exact same problem when he got a 9600XT....
See, he was deleting his old Nvidia drivers, so he just deleted everything that said nvidia..he had an Nforce. System restore fixed all, Doom 3 fun.

see if there are any video drivers at ALL on your computer, if there are, remove them before you install RADEON drivers (they dont play nice with others) by control panel -> add/remove programs

    :also try www.omegadrivers.net
