The storylines actually grabbing me quite well however I'm getting GPU crashes at the Central Processing level just after you find the councillor dudes body.

Time for a new graphics card methinks.

Story was sound, had me scared pretty well, and there were some great 'oh ****' moments....

I loved it, it was well worth the 60 bucks spent. But it is not something I want to play through again.

I want to see what mods are coming out for it.

I went there, and I saw a big black screen. Yeah, the page was done.

    Must be that new lighting.

I really enjoyed Doom 3, sure it stopped being at all scary once you got about an hour into the game, but it was a really fun fps game all the way through. Visually it's excellent, every little part of the game was so well done with great attention to detail, id really outdid themselves on this one.

The only problem i do have with it is that it lacks much, if any, replayability, as the story's the same and the monsters appear in the same places, no matter what.

As for a couple of things such as walls opening up and such, that's Doom through and through, sure it might not sit well with people that didn't play the originals through properly, but as someone that has, i thought it fit really well.

And the shotgun useless? HAH! The shotgun is easily my most used weapon.

I'd still play Doom 1 over Half-Life, Rainbow Six, Morrowind, and just about every other game, including Painkiller.

I might have to revise that list, though, as Ninja Gaiden looks kick arse.

PlanetDOOM has some mods hosted on it. Sure it's GameSpy, but at least it's better than nothing.

Doom 3 Fortress here I come!

GG triple post and huge sig.

Anyway, I loved DOOM 3 - it's a fabulous single player game with an incredible amount of attention to detail in the writing, mapping, and overall design.

As for the shotgun . . . I’m sorry, but you must just really suck. The shotgun is the only part of the game that I disliked. You can kill just about anything in one or two good shots, but get an absolutely absurd amount of ammunition. The game would be much more suspenseful if you didn't have three hundred spare shells only a few hours in.

I just think a head/neck shot at five feet with a gun designed to be devastating at close range should be fatal. But I'm crazy that way.

I know Doom wasnt meant to be realistic in any way, but it's painfully obvious that the designers have never fired, or even seen someone else fire, a shotgun. The popular idea is that a shotgun lathers everything in front of you for five feet, but really a shotgun with the proper choke and barrel length can keep a pretty tight spread to 50 yds.

i really like that if your crosshairs arent on the monster, you miss with a flashlight swipe

(unless they did that in the demo to mess with your head)

Yeah, but usually, at 50 yards, you'll more likely tick the guy off then anything. But I do agree, they don't have very good shotgun physics. The sg in D3 looks like it's some form of shortened barrel version, so, anything within around 10 feet of that barrel should either be dead, or wishing it were dead.

Also, in regards to realism, please remember that it is demons from hell attacking...

I don't think there isn't a lot of emperical evidence in regards to how much buckshot a real demon can withstand..
  • Fro5tyFro5ty Join Date: 2003-09-26 Member: 21238Members, Constellation
I know that, but then remember, there are zombies there, which are basically dead humans brought back to life. By all regards, at close range with a shotgun, if I am no more then ten feet away from them, their head should be blown off.

Yes, but the whole point was that the person arguing for head blowoffingness was arguing from a standpoint of reality.
