Here's a simple piece of advice (though some that have played for over a year still don't understand it). Don't charge down a hallway as a skulk where a marine is waiting for you at the other end. Unless the marine has very bad aim, they will kill you every single time.

Crotalus

Accuracy is very important if you want to perform better for the Marines.
Practice this by letting teammates go ahead of you as baits. As soon as you
see a skulk, stop moving and aim carefully, the skulks are attacking him right
now, so you don't have to worry about that. Shoot.

Also, this works too:
Pistol, pistol, pistol, knife. Instant kill for a skulk.
