A Gundam

Well, ive been working on this in my small amounts of freetime for the past few weeks, a little here and a little there. This is most definately not going to be part of any HL1 mod, because of its insanely high poly count. It's just a bit of artwork now, i'd like to use this also as a tool to teach myself how to UV Map, and possibly skin. Anyway, what do you think?

Also, what is a rather good FREE rendering program? I've tried cinema4d, and im not very fond of it anymore.

    I usually just use Moray (which renders via POVray) when I want to tinker around with some modeling.

    The PC (when triangulated) is about 5k, because of all of the cylinders I used in it trying to make it look as best as possible. As for the chest, I know it's lacking, i'm trying my hardest to make it look really good though.

    As Beast said, the chest needs some more details. Another thing is (at least to my eye) the head needs to be "bigger" if you get what I mean...

    The arms could have some more work also but as you said it's your free time and it's your proyect =P

    Overall I think it owns and you're doing some awesome work with it, keep it up.

    PS: mind if I (someday) do some sketches with it ?

    I'm not an anus about my work, if you want any of it, you can have it to do whatever you want with.

    Right now on my HD ive only got a few things. This, the dropship, two Wh40k weapon models, and a battlemech.

    Picture for reference, the head is supposed to be small on Gundams! =D

    And as for the arms, I planned on doing something with them, just not sure yet. And i'm not at all looking forward to doing the hands.

    The spikes on the head should be moved forward a touch. The arm cylinders shouldn't expand so much as they reach the elbow (Harder to maneuver your arm like that), stylize the shoulder pads (if PC allows, otherwise make sure the skin has it).

    The head on a Gundam isn't really much, maybe a place for some small 20mm vulcans and a sensory suite. The arms and torso are much more important. The head is just for looks. Ever seem a Zaku Mobile Suit? It's head is suken into the body. Mind you I find Zaku's hideously repulsive.

    BTW I love Gundam Deathsycthe Hell Custom. (I believe that is the full name...). MY favourite is Gundam Heavyarms Kai, Jesus so many guns...

    It's chest thing opens up too, it has a pair of gatlings in there. THere are like 24 missiles on the arms, 12 on the legs.     Seriously, just take a head from any Gundam model, and modify a bit. Boom a new Gundam head <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    More blocky though. Break it into segment with little space inbetween them. Gundam hands only close enough to hold a sword. I don't think gundams get married, fyi.

    I'm just saying that work has kinda stopped because of these damn hands. Why...WHY MUST IT HAVE HANDS!

    Replace it with a autocannon? i.e. such as like heavy arms or any type of gun that replaces the arm/fist

    Like Samus Aran's cannon or Megaman. But nah, you should keep trying making the hands, maybe even in a different project and when you're done just take that skill to the Gundam model. I've been drawing for some years now, and for me, one of the hardest things to learn was to make hands.
