for a good flight/space combat game
Hello,
I've reecently found myself craving a good flight sim game, either ww2 era, modern, or space. Multiplayer is a requirement.
The last game I played was tie fighter 2 if that's any indication. Was wondering if anyone here had any personal favorites that they have played/currently play that would be great for multiplayer.
Realism is not a strict requirement, but a lil accuracy to actual flying (a compromise between microsoft flight simulator and battlefield vietnam for example) can be good.
Also, I've already got freespace 2 coming to me, which I heard is good. And playing aces high 1 was a diaster as far as I'm concerned. Beyond those two, recommend away, thanks!

ALLEGIANCE! (Microsoft released the source to the community... steep learning curve, but it's free, and rocks once you get into it)
Also, Freelancer sucks. It's a weaksauce version of X:BTF with a non-dynamic economy and a third-person flying model. (Read: In X:BTF you can shoot down other merchants trying to supply a station with, say... water, and corner a high-paying monopoly, rather than just memorizing the 'best' supply runs. Also, you can own your OWN space stations in X:BTF. Also, it's a first-person cockpit view, giving you a more 'flight sim' feel. ^_^)
YES THE BEST EVA!
and FreeSpace the first one too!

The only two you'd need to get, at an affordable price of at most 15ish bucks at the Virgin White Label (it was 100 francs when I bought the FS1 + exp + FS2 pack)
And so Frontier.

Sign up, and download 1 at a time. And no, this isnt illegal warez or illegal abandonware. The site is huge, dedicated to all those old time games that didnt make it big, and whose copyright has expired. Any time a company asks them to take down a download, they comply. If a company rereleases a title for sale, they again remove the download and provide a link to the sale.
For emphasis - NOT ILLEGAL! It has been around as the biggest provider of old games for about 2 years now, and continually liases with ISDA lawyers over its content. The mere fact is still exists should speak volumes for its legitimacy.
As Cam0 said, it is home of the underdogs, but the forums autopwned my links
Freespace 2
Freespace 2
Freespace 2
Freespace 2
Freespace 2
If I knew how to code I'd do this in an instant.
XvT is the best multiplayer game I've ever played. Too bad the netcode is shoddy

READ!
If you want to try the games out, do a search for Home of the Underdogs, which provides legal abandonware. Most of the files are RIPS (missing movies/nonessential files), so you'd be better off buying anyway. I think that's what Marine01 was trying to link to.
yes
Very good. It may be old, but the graphics don't show it. It is one of the most beautiful space combat games I have ever played.

The ships are quite ugly. The effects (especially shields and explosions) are quite amazing considering the requirements (233 Mhz I believe)
All flightsims I played were dull. xD
