Dunno what to do

I tried going through the start menu, but when i try to join servers I get an unkown protocol.
Tried loading CS Retail, then going through the custom menu, but I get error 583 and 599.  Proceding to join a game causes a crash to desktop.
Any reccomendations?

Ouch. Well, it's a bad one, but you could start by renaimng your old HL directory (sort of as a backup), and reinstalling HL clean, then patching it. Then install NS and see if it works. Same applies if you are running CS retail.
