I happend upon Half-Life 2's official website a while ago and apparently a webmaster from VU updated it to Gold status, and would ship November 23rd.
Now I'm taking this with a grain of salt but I made a topic so we could maybe discuss the logisitics of it all.
(Yes I did a thread search for this criteria ahead of time <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->)

Apparently it got pulled
Or at the very least - sites like planethalflife.com and halflife2.net would have giant blinking banners saying "HALF-LIFE 2 IS GOLD!" with a count down to release.
Or maybe just pigs flying around like Half-Life Cherubs. I'm not sure which would really happen.
[although, you've got to think it's close with the reviews, the screenshots (admittedly related to the reviews), the purchase choices and the numerous pre-loads]
Speculating wont make it come any faster <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> .
It simply cannot be

The man speaks the turth.
But still, until there is evidence proving it went gold, then all this is still just a rumor, like the ones we were hearing a year ago...
Also, lets not overlook the most likely scenario that the webserver was probably just hacked. Maybe root password was "toor" or something. :P
Oh well, we've waited 17 months already, what's 1 more?
Between those two, we'll never
get our half life two.
AKA they probably got hacked.
I believe they have a contract where they both must be released at the same time...why they planned on not letting people use their locked copies of HL2 until the boxes hit store shelves.
But perhaps there is no contract/Valve wants to **** off Vivendi.
I think you'll need to believe it a bit sooner than that so it can get on your computer.
...or at least be purchased and unlocked on your computer. But if that's the case - then it's already on your computer and it must have gone gold already without anyone knowing.
...I don't know where this post is going.
...
....-abrupt end.
[edit] a very important T was missing.
IS VU holding HL2 hostage? If so who would be up for a "hostage rescue"? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Of course, this makes me want to purchase over Steam that much more.
And the inquirer is full of ****

No. Retail will always take longer for Europe. Just look at Doom 3, where there was a delay of around 2-3 weeks from when it was released in America.
And since when is www.theinquirer.net full of any kind of ****? Seriously man, they're one of the best tech news sites around. Quite witty as well.
Can anyone confirm that Valve is forced by contract to wait for Vivendi's retail release before they unlock it on Steam? They sure aren't doing that for Counter-Strike: Source.
The evidence certainly points to the contract stating that Half Life 2 must wait for release through Retail before it is released through Steam.
However, since CS: Source isn't owned by Vivendi, they can release it when they want to. Valve's marketing quite smartly. Think about the fact that CS: Source will be released this week to the public, meaning many people will be buying through steam because they can get the #1 Online Game ported to Source <b>now</b>, rather than later.
Valve Smart Smart Smart, Smart Smart Smart Smart Smart.
Vivendi Dum, Dum dum dum dum, dum dum dum dum DUM.
STEAM STEAM LOL!
I believe you're not the only one.
Unless vivendi delays it those 3 days so it can be released the very same day worldwide, Valve ought to get an otherwise unlikely boost to steam purchases.
