are a few

I'l second, er, 4th Radiohead. In fact, most of Radiohead's stuff is depressing, not just up to OK, Computer. For example "We Suck Young Blood" from Hail to the Thief, their latest offering.

A lot of people find The Smiths depressing. Personally, I think they're a fantastic band and often misinterpreted, but research into a song called 'I Know It's Over' by the Mancunian four piece. It's the track that most people find depressing by them.

However, I often find that the most depressing song you can listen to is wholeheartedly personal. A song which can make you break out in tears, could have the next person smiling haphazardly. It's all about how you feel and relate to certain tracks and artists.

The tracks which make me feel the most depressed are songs which remind me of personal sad moments in my life. For instance, the first song I heard after the death of my best friend will always be the saddest song in the world. However, ask the average Joe in the street what he thinks of the song, and he probably won't be able to find a sad tone in it.

Yes, that's the title of the song. It always depresses the crap out of me.

Edit: Oh, and most of the songs off the self-titled cd by The Used.

Well with my taste, Avril Lavigne and Busted depress me. Although they're not classed as 'depressing'.

EDIT: More seriously, Matchbook Romance - Tiger Lilly. Great song, but depressing, especially if you just got dumped.

I'm a big radiohead fan, love all their stuff.

Heres one that hasn't been mentioned, probably wouldn't have been either. The secret track at the end of 'Jagged Little Pill' by Alanis Morrisette, to download you'll have to find Track 13, can't remember the name off the top of my head though.
Its a beautiful track, just vocal and really gets to you (well, to me anyway).

Yeah, Moby's 'Why does my heart feel so bad' is cool too.

Saddest song of all time? 'Street Spirit (Fade out)' by Radiohead is definitely in the top ten.

Can't believe no-one's mentioned Opeth yet.

Opeth write some of the most depressing songs, whether heavy or mellow.

Check out out anything from their Damnation album: especially "Hope Leaves" and "In my time of need".

Those who become interested might want to check out their heavier stuff.
