Have Any Good Horror Stories?

My girlfriend took a makeup exam the other night for a professor. She has noticed that he is very abusive to his TA's and other students. Often the professor will yell at students if they do not follow his undeclared vision of how his class should go.

From her personal experience: In a classroom with 2 entrances, the professor once flipped out when she entered from the front of the room and sat in front rather than entering from the rear of the room and walking to the front. By flipped out I am talking literally yelling at her. This was before class started so she didn't understand what the problem was. Another time he yelled at the TA for handing out papers incorrectly. How you do that I am not sure as they were just the class notes.

The piece de resistance:

During the makeup exam the professor was speaking with his wife on the phone. At the end of the conversation he said, "You had better have dinner ready when I get home b****"

I think that about trumps any complaints I have ever had with any of my professors. I politely suggested that my girlfriend should give this guy a wide bearth.

Myself on the other hand. If I ever see anyone acting like this I go out of my way to give them a hard time.

and he's not been fired already because...?

I'm kinda amazed none of the students have complained or any of the other tutors haven't brought up his behaviour =/

That is what I said. I guess that most people are more worried about their grades and will put up with his BS. By the time they are finished his class, they have another set of professors to be annoyed with.

I thrive on conflict however, and always loved messing with such professors. They know that they cannot lower your grade without proper reasons and even if they did you can take them to a review board. That is the last thing they want and must chew on their own bile.

Tenured professors cannot be fired because they have proven their genius in their particular field. it doesnt matter to the university how wacky the person is once they have attained Tenured status.

if he's just a regular schmuck low level professor, then by all means he can be ditched.

I don't know how things are over there, but over here, if you give a serious complaint to the professors' comission (and they have had similar complaints from other students) the matter will be looked into and the professor can be fired in the worst case scenario.

I have a similar sad story. In my senior year in high school I took a graphical design course (CAD stuff). The teacher was an utter arse. He weighed at least 300 pounds, and looked like he had swallowed an inner tube. He was derogatory to Jan, the one girl in the class. He literally called her 'girl' like it was her name and taunted the rest of the class, my friend Phillip and myself especially.

Normally, I'm an easy person to get along with and pretty hard to tick off. However, in the course of 1 semester of his class, Phillip had to literally grab my arm and tell me not to respond to his baiting.

Thank yo all for listening to my rant.

Sounds a lot like the CAD teacher at my high school...despite me never having taken a CAD course.

For some reason, it seems like tech ed and gym teachers are the only ones that I've seen as troublesome (not all of them either, just some of them). All the other teacher who make fun of students (either in high school or college) that I've seen either make it recipricative or make clear they're playing (like the crazy philosophy teachers around here).

Yea. Even the worst professors if they have been there long enough can't be gotten rid of.

PS: I remember how this one prof in my Mom's social worker program yell as the class about maners because they didn't answer her when she said good moring. Person trying to lecture my mom about manners... yeaaah right. lol
