Sony To Psp Developers:

<div class="IPBDescription">"Our battery sucks. So fix it."</div> <a href='http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=4667' target='_blank'>Linky</a>

Basically the article states that Sony can't be arsed trying to prolong their battery life, so they developed a program to emulate their battery. So when developers are making a game, they know how long it will take before the game runs out of juice.

Add that to the media which they choose to use, mini-cds/dvds, and your looking at one gigantic strain on the battery life.

One gigantic kick in the **** for game developers. It's like Sony just doesn't care that their battery sucks the big one... and then they have the gual to tell Developers to work around the PSP's shortcomings. Goodo.

Nintendo just won the power consumption round.
Carts and flashpacks for the win.
CDs and lasers for the battery draining lose.

Since when has Sony ever made a well-engineered console product? I swear their quality control is just a bunch of chimps throwing components at each other all day.

I've never bought a console [excluding N64 years ago.. and that still holds up to many consoles today], and I've gotta laugh at all the crap that seems to go on with them. It couldn't be that hard to, say, NOT make a battery that lasts for 1 hour then dies. Guess not <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

hmmm... GAMEGEAR 2: RETURN OF THE DEAD BATTERY

Actually I think that's a darn shame; I was hoping on buying the DS for cool games and the PSP for watching vids on the go but if the battery is a pile of poop then I don't think I'll bother after all =/

Pay $350 to have the privilege of re-purchasing all of your movies on UMD through Sony so you can watch them on a small screen for the two hours of battery life? No thanks. Might as well buy a portable DVD player that you can hook up to a larger TV at home.

Well I kinda meant watching it on coaches (long trips) or at work or whatever where there's no TVs =3
    I was also kinda hoping someone would release writable UMDs or something ^^;

Yeah, what's with that? I read in Edge that it doesn't support mp3's, either. Seems a bit nuts to me.

What respectable coach nowadays doesn't have a tv? Heck, even the prehistoric ones I have been driving around in usually have two.

Does game use more power than the movie?

I don't know, I'm not a technician. But it makes sense to me that interactive media should use more power. Can someone tell me?

Games require 3d real time rendering and use up more juice.

Less than 2 hours of game time then?

No, playing games gives the battery about 8 hours. At best. The DS is looking saucier by the minute.
