    I kinda ignored this topic after so many people started saying thier opinions about how wrong scripting is, or right.

    but after reviewing what most of you ahve said. Scripting doesn't realy effect game play. but I already knew that. and still the question pretty much remains un answered by most.

    Does having blockscripts on attract more new players, and unattract the better players. Scripters and nonscripters included? Opinions, and some data or theories backing it up.

    In my opinion it does.     PLease. AGAIN IN CASE YOU MISSED: Try to keep out opinions of "Scripting is the 666 of NS! KILL IT!" That is not the question. Also. from most peoples opinion, scripting doesn't effect the skill. how ever im trying to determine if mp_blockscripts 1 attracts more new players. while mp_blockscripts off. attract a bigger crowd of more experiacned and better players.

    I'd argue that the scripts disabled probably does discourage a large portion of the seasoned players among us. This is not because they think that turning off the scripts will alter their skill, but from what I am hearing most have some script of some form that they enjoy because it makes their playing experience that much easiier/more enjoyable. Spending enough time to be that good will tend to introduce you to some form of scripting whether it is a gameplay type script or a simply convenience script.

    On the other hand though, I don't think that scripts being enabled or disabled is going to make a big difference to the less experienced among us because I imagine many of them don't use scripts due to them either not knowing about them, being uneducated about them, or simply not caring about them.

    So in the end, it discourages the better players while the less experienced are pretty much unphased by it. This is not entirely a bad thing in my opinion. Anyone here who has listened to one of my assorted rants here on these forums knows my stance on mixed skill gaming. Leave the best to fight amongst themselves while the rest of us play at our respective levels of play. If disabling scripts is one way to help enable that philosophy along then i'm all for it.

    EDIT: Oh, and I don't think that having scripts enabled inherently invites more of the better crowd. It seems most of those players tend to play on a few select servers that they like and only rarely break out of them. While they might prefer to play on a server with scripts enabled it would seem to me that the choice would hardly ever really come up.

    Okay, so I crused around and asked a few people. Its seems that alot of the more experianced player use scripts, and they would rather not have to unbind thier scripts just to play on one server. upon further investigation, sometimes they would be called hackers..

    Also I notice it commen that with servers that use blockscript. That the population is newer usualy., and not as orginized. while the newer marines are more orginized, and shoot pretty decently. ive even seen it where the aliens die and some of them have like 50,75, sometimes full rez. Also on like 10vs10 and great, I would only see one or two people go fade, and no lerks, mostly because they usualy get insta gibbed.

    (I am not going to name servers, Nor was I using my regualr name while looking around)

    Now in second theory, ive noticed that there are more combat servers and I belive that because aleins are way overpowered in combat its training the new players to play like they do in combat. combat for aliens is WAY ez.


    Now among servers that had a high population of good players, I noticed alot more oginization amongst aliens, and more alien victory, in fact, when FF was aplied to servers, the amount of marine victories declined.

    I also noticed when the marines had realy realy realy good players. that the marines seemed overpowered due to the fact that they could *seem* like 2-3 of them could shut down a 10player alien team. Upon furhter investigation, when I tried to tget the aleins more orginzied and set up ambush points in publics, and just help assigned roles everyone could agree on. we broke about even.

    Please do not start a flame war over this. Im just saying what im noticing.

    On a side note. unchained servers, I noticed teams broke about even. Maybe having unchained to partly chained Chambers be a server option more so. for it looks liek the boost that pubs may need. although I belive that it may be too much for clan play, or higher experiance play.

    On a side note, maybe its time I start making demos, because thats realy the only way I could show proof.

    The thing is that it's just about impossible for you to get a sample size large enough to definatively prove something, even with demos. Or, at least by yourself. And even then, it's hard to tell whether there's a pattern or just a vocal minority.

    This is unfortunately something that we have to rely on the PTs for.

    maybe we can get 10-20 TRUST worhty people to help assimulate all the information then make a report. and of course have all their demos and case work avalable as well. but maybe thats taking it too far.

    There is a way of aliasing everything so you can still use scripts on a blockscript 1 server right? I need to know how to do that.
