Help The 3ds Max Nublet

rawrAlrighty, another question for you to help me with...
I decompiled the .mdl with the mdl decompiler, and then imported the reference smd into 3ds max 6 with the SMD importer. (btw, it's the v_knife model)
But now I'm lost. I need to seperate the knife from the hands, but I don't know how...
Is there a way to select all vertices assigned to a bone, and move them?
Or does one usually model from scratch, with only the hands and arms to start with?
