Metroid Prime 2

whos looking forward to it?
I know im looking forward to this game. Metroid games arnt much for storyline, but are excellent for exploration, and i hear this new one is going to be even better. Although i think nintendo should have released it at a different date, because halo 2 will steal the glory. but thank god they are both console exclusive.
anyway, i love the whole federation soldiers thing. The only other metroid game you ever see them in is fusion, and im not sure if those are really the federation soldiers.

Meh. Metroid has always seemed like this to me: either you explore an intricate world on a game boy which is too small to appreciate it, or you explore an intricate world on a Gamecube, and if you are in first person with a gamepad you're not "exploring" so much as "trying to strafe and turn at the same time." Everything first person on a console just feels like I'm wrestling with the controls and it ruins it for me. I'm sure I'd love Metroid if I could play it with a mouse and keyboard, but alas.

I agree with you but somehow the atmosphere of the first Metroid Prime game just overrode all that for me. Thing was, before I rented it I was thinking "Oh man I am so totally going to hate this. No keyboard, no mouse = Cruddy FPS." Turned out to be a total lie, at least for me anyway. I mean, the great music, beautiful graphics and good fights (as well as excellent bosses) just worked itself out, despite the sad control scheme.

In any case, I just can't wait for Echoes. A must rent for me, you see.

Yeah, I can't wait until Echoes. I own every single metroid game, never beaten the second though.

I am marching down to my E-B Games and BUYING Metroid Prime 2. The game was incredible (beat it on hard with 100%) and no, the controls were NOT bad. In fact, if you got used to the controls they were quite well put out. People wanted the dual analog stuff they got with Halo and other FPS games. Didnt work out for them, so they hated the control scheme. Get used to it ya whinners.

Metroid prime = win

Echoes > prime

prime was good but I got annoyed with the controls a lot. The fact you can't dodge for toffee if you lose your lock-on was a major annoyance for me. Probably would've been better just using halo/timesplitter 2 controls... they take a while to get used to but they're infinitely more useable than the prime controls =o

Either way I'll buy 2 ^^

MP2 is just one of far too many sequels I have to get my hands on. I feel for my checking account, I really do...
• XilentshadowXilentshadow Join Date: 2004-04-01 Member: 27657Members
ive played all metroid games, i have 2, and ive gotten the rom for super metroid. I cannot beat any of the three, but i beat zero mission on every difficulty. that still doesnt add up to the origional metroid though. MP2 is gonna kick ****. The screw attack is back! yay!
I also want to get that metroid prime hunters: first hunt for ds. First hunt implies that there will NOT be any metroids in the game, and since samus is a bounty hunter... well put 2 and 2 together.

Yeah thanks for that.

See, I don't really enjoy Buffy The Vampire Slayer. However I don't feel the need to go into the Buffy Appreciation thread and say "Buffy sucks. Series X rulez." that adds nothing to the arguement.
Coming in and going "Buffy sucks, for such and such reason" is a much better presentation.

Yes.

I'll definitely buy the sequel and no doubt love it, but it's not something I'm looking forward to. Only games I'm actually excited for are:

Outrun 2
Shenmue Online
PSO Universe
and the Nintendo DS if the wireless capabilities allow decent online fun.

Ok name a game that you would like to play online for the DS? I couldn't think of one. It just doesn't seem in the hardware's capability for more then 16 people to be playing.

I don't know. I wouldn't want to play a 16 player online game.

Stuff like Bomberman, Mario Kart, PSO (rumoured to be in production), Mario 64x4, that new Pacman, Pictochat, Wario Ware? Stuff like that?

Metroid prime hunters: first hunt. Durrr... if only gamecubbe would add online capability (better than they already have with warppipe and such, which isnt even thier software), anyway, metroid prime and halo?
im not sure if you could compare the two
Sure they both are sci-fi, and in them you shoot, but theres a huge difference. one of them is which nintendo brings thier classic puzzle-making skills and incorporates them into the game, while in halo, you press a button, and a bridge pops up. not so hard. and you shoot aliens in both but in halo its more about the shooting and less about the exploration. Also, halo would have a better storyline if they actually told you what happened in the books in the game. Metroids story is more realistic. There is an alien species, oh what do you do? go kill them. Thats fine with me. But in the prime games, you also learn of samus' past, and about the mysterious chozo who raised her. Metroid fusion probably had the best story for a metroid game, and im really hoping they make a prime game that takes place after fusion. All in all both are really great games, i really dont see a point in arguing over it. Its all a matter of opinion really.

oh by the way, the ds is gonna r0xx0r mah b0xx0rz.

There is going to be so many many many many many awesome things coming out for the DS in that legal grey area. I cannot wait.

Somebody is going to develop a SNES emulator for the DS, then he will add in Wireless Network support and then I will die drowning on my own drool PLAYING LEGALLY DEVELOPED GAMES CREATED BY HARDWORKING UNIVERSITY PROGRAMMERS.

While still in the grey area.
It will be quite interesting what emulators will be developed.
The fact that the DS lacks the chip to play GB and GBC will probably be the first hurdle programmers will tackle as the GB chip was taken out of the DS to save on the cost of the damn thing.

But if somebody can program a NES emulator for the GBA, they can certainly develop a GB emulator for a DS.

I wonder if a N64 emulator would be possible, as the DS obviously has no problem playing 64 games (Read: Super Mario 64x4)

Oh the possibilities.

Yeah I guess games like mario kart, and metroid prime hunters would be pretty cool online.

And the DS is supposed to be more advanced than the N64.
