sounds cool
Well I just checked ATi's website today and I saw that they just released their new ATi Radeon x700 GFX Card. Sounds pretty cool to me. Maybe it's to compete with the nVidia 6600 Card?

Oy, does it really say that? ATI is going for rock bottom; let's get grandma to buy our 3d card so she can check email!

    Sweet technology.

I still want to see a circular motherboard so I can make a spherical computer. Maybe then mod a case from a discoball and hang the computer from the ceiling and befuddle all my visitors.

The X700 has a slight edge in some DX9 based games. It is edged out (by a significant margin) in OGL games.

    Final words?

While a good card, the 6600 GT still represents the better value.

    From TomsHardware:

Regardless, what we can say is that ATi has closed the performance gap to the GeForce 6600 GT with its new X700 XT - and done so at a slightly lower introductory price. The previous model, the X600, is now nothing more than yesterday's news. In the end, the success of the cards of either manufacturer will depend on who will be the first to ship large quantities of their cards, and at what price.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

So, each card does better in certain games, but the ATI one is a bit cheaper. This could be ineresting. Like they said, whomever ships first will probably win. And wasn't Nvidia having stock problems with their high end cards (maybe they learned a lesson?)

    Also remember:

NVidia has suckass drivers. And they KEEP screwing up. ATi's drivers aren't the best either- but frankly, if their kicking GeForce's butt this easy, just imagine when they unlock the potential? ATi is worth so much more...damn that salesmen. Where's my sawwedoff?

    Comprox:

I hope you remember that nVidia uses bridged AGP to PCI-E cards now.

It'll be much easier for nVidia to get the ball rolling, as they just need to remove the bridge and make it AGP, while ATi has to make a new core design to get an AGP flavor out. Let's remember that the vast majority of computer users still have AGP.

    Quaunaut:

nVidia drivers are on par with ATi's, and has much better OGL drivers.

I think the two cards will be priced very similarly, so I don't think that cost will be an issure, it'll mainly be performance, in which the 6600 GT is the better performer (in a slight majority of the cases).

    Edit:

I re-read your post, Comprox, and once I saw THG, I started laughing.

    Anandtech forever.

Can you read the entire paragraph please? While it does say that it is good for internet browsing, that does not mean that the card is purely built for it.

Yes, saying it's good for web browsing is just to appeal to the mainstream...

This theory is, of course, shattered by the fact that mainstream web browsing people don't have many FPS drops in IE or Firefox, and don't know how to turn their volume up on Windows.
