<div class="IPBDescription">Like to see rr and ns faq reorganized</div>I would like to see the rr FAQ reorganized including lots of stuff that has been taken up in these forums lately. Right now they look some silleh.

I probably should come with concrete examples, just that I can't think about any right now.

The goal of the FAQ should be that nobody has to look through the whole forums or ask questions again and again if they look at the FAQ.

Same sorta goes to the official FAQ, but I guess the dev team have more important things to do at the moment. <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

well people could always use the search function this forum has.

Yeah, but simply loading up the FAQ and reading through it is much less effort than clicking the search button, typing in what you want, clicking search, and then having to go through numerous posts on the same subject.

well maybe, but some people just don't feel liek readign through the whoel thing, so if they liek to cut to the chase, they could just search these forums

Personally, I like the idea of upgrading the FAQ. Most people will go there, rather than trying to think up all the various and sundry names an idea/concept can be listed as.

The RR FAQ is the first place I went to learn about NS a few months back. To me it's an intuitive action, but in my experience hosting community websites for large user bases they are not frequently visited no matter how many frequent questions they answer <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

The trick is getting users to actually visit the FAQ by making the FAQ and intuitive page to visit. I found that renaming the FAQ to something along the lines of "What is (insert game name here)?" or "Game Info." made it a bit more intuitive for the average user and increased the number of views for the page.

Making the letters bold, contrasting, glowing, or some other slight variation on the sidebar helps as well, or making it the first link. If you really want to make sure people visit the page you can use the "intrusive space" theory most web advertisers have switched over to these days, which amounts to placing it on the page in such a way that you can help but notice it. C-.net and download.com have similar ads. The HUGE gateway banner adds that start the entire width of the page and 400 pixels in length, then shrink to a norml size banner ad. Now, I don't suggest doing that, it's a bit overboard, but it certainly cuts down on the amount of similar questions new users ask.

All good points. I like the terminology idea for sure Sgt. Bilko. I do think the Readyroom FAQ and NS Features pages could stand to have a bit of reorg and updating; it's been a few months. I cold also put topics at the top with anchors in the page so you could jump down to your specific question.

I will try to get to this sometime this week. If anyone wants to compile a list of questions they see asked frequently in the forums that don't have an answer in the FAQ/Features pages, I'd love to hear from you. You will get credit on the pages as a research analyst <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

I know this is a really dumb idea, but its really cool too, maybe as part as registration for the forum, you could show the faq and then to complete the registration you'd have to take a quick test on some of the things in the faq.  That way alot less new guys would be asking, "so.... can i beta test?"  <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo--> LOL

Hmm, what about adding some info on each alien level, as I just read somewhere at these forums that somebody said something like "Lol have you forgotten about the blinker Molec?" <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->

Where would I read about the blinkers teleport ability other than here at these forums???

Actually, the alien info is buried somewhere deep within the news files of the ReadyRoom. But yeah, there should be a big link to it.

And where is this well hidden place??

So much for volunteers for compiling feature and FAQ questions. Bleh. I sooooo don't look forward to this.

Hmmmm, I agree that there would be balancing issues if the "Blaze of Glory" and "Life Support" features were added as they are described.

Poor MonsE, but thanks for the link.

/me bows to almighty (and hard-working) MonsE

I'd contribute, but I haven't been around long enough to really know what questions should be added / subtracted / changed in the FAQ.

Perhaps you could take questions from past topics and add them to the FAQ. A few could be…

"When is this mod going to be released"
    “friendly fire on/off?”
“Is there going to be a beta test?” (this one came up a few times)
    “What is NSTR2?”
    “What is the builder alien?”
“How will hit boxes on aliens work?”
“How fast is the gameplay, dmamage vs death wise?”
    “Will weapons have secondary functions?
“Will alien upgrades be communal or individual?”

Thanks for the suggestions.  It's much easier to update when you go to the extra work to list the commonly asked questions.  I've updated the FAQ, have a look.  I also added a "last updated" tag at the top.

    Cutie pudgy.

    Yay!

    What about organizing the mappinggui...

    (Kassinger stops in the fear of bugging the over-worked dev&pr team) <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

I don't find any updated FAQ.

/me looks under big blue box.

Nope, not there either. Did you mean you would update it or did you hide it somewhere?

/me goes to look for updated FAQ

It's in the usual place.  Make sure to refresh the page (F5 under IE).
