Pre/selection Movie Update

P/S fans, this is for you
Hello everyone –

As the head of G.Worx Pictures I usually write a production update once a month on the website. However, I will only post this on the NS forums because this matter concerns only the Natural-Selection community, specifically those waiting for the Pre/Selection movie to be completed. If you don’t know what the Pre/Selection movie is, this won’t matter very much to you. I suggest skipping this long post.

As for the rest of you, I feel a need to explain the current situation on the film. Larson McColl, the P/S director, has always had a very close relationship with the NS community. He enjoys reading forum posts about P/S and often discusses the user comments with me. This is the reason I am posting this letter.

Some time last year Larson pitched a production schedule to me. It was a three month schedule for a short film called “PreSelection,” that he would write, direct, and edit. We were heavy into production on another film called “ClanWars” at the time, and therefore it was very risky to go into preproduction on another film – considering we had merely 4 crew members on the G.Worx team at the time. But, I decided to go for it, and all of us were pulling double duty for the next couple months.

Things were moving along very well when something unexpected happened to Larson. Without going into personal detail, I’ll only say this problem greatly affected his life until it become difficult to concentrate on anything else. He continued to work on P/S, but gradually his progress slowed down more and more due to the weight of more-important issues in his life. Eventually it got too hard to progress on P/S. The rest of the team (myself included) tried numerous times to jump-start the project again, but Larson definitely needed to focus on other matters.

Last week Larson, Browser (the P/S modeler) and I had a discussion about P/S once again. We all decided that it was best if Browser would take the lead role in the project, since it would get P/S released sooner. This is what has happened now, and Browser is thus in need of some extra help.

Knowing that Larson had a personal relationship with many P/S fans, I’m sure you can email him about any further questions (his email is on the G.Worx website, as you know).

Aside from that, Browser needs your help, and this is what he requested:

A) I need to find good 3d max animators for character rigging (1 to 3 members). This task is a must.

Tasks involved :
- working on a given bone structure to rig all the animated IK chains and theire controls.
- matching animations with character sound effects
- There will not be any handling of models or scenes.
- depending on quality of work and level of confidence, possibly handleling model animation details like angle and muscle morphings (if we have time to do it)
- work needed for about 10 different models needing animation rigging
- each handleling of tasks must be a start-to-finish type of work. I cannot afford geting parital work done. Constant flow of work is needed for a successful delivery. Members not following this rule will be dropped.

B) texturers (1 to 4). This task is optional as I haven't decided on it. It would bring a higher quality to the project but will push further away the delivery of the project.

Tasks involved :
- creating high-res textures with bumpmaps, specular and lighting materials for each.

The project has about 6 weeks of production left if he can find the proper help. I encourage anyone interested to post your contact info in this forum. Your help would be appreciated – and let’s all hope that Larson can join us soon again.

If anyone with the talent is reading this, please go for it. The trailers that were released some time ago looked pretty damn professional and exciting. I want to see it finished.
