    I have the first Ghost in the Shell on DVD and I love it. The sequel looks equally awesome.

    skidzor, check out the Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex series. If you liked the movie, you'll absofreakinloutly love the series. (The series is what this 2nd movie is based off of too)

    The trailer says the movie is rated PG-13. I'm assuming that's a mistake, either in making the trailer or making the movie.

    I saw the commercial on TV, but I've known about this movie for a long time. Based solely on the information given in the commercial... it's I, Robot.

    Oh yea, and GITS:SAC FTW!

    Seriously though how can the sequel to Ghost in the Shell be PG-13? It doesn't make any sense.

    What next a sequel to Akira rated G?

    "Tetsuo we must go rescue the friendly toaster!"

    PS I'm still seeing it <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    it's the PREVIEW, not the movie that's rated pg13... they often do that so they can show the preview during less adult movies...

    anyway, the trailer makes it sound like this movie is gonna be dumbed down compared to the original... unless they just make it sound dumb for dumb audiences... but I just hope it's not all action and is filled with philosophy and psychology I can't understand, just like the first one <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    It is rated PG-13. I wouldn't be that worried about it but making a transition from an unrated film to a PG-13 film seems weird to me.

    The philospohy in the first one was crap (don't get me wrong the overall movie was good). It made no sense, at least to me. Wow! Machines can have feelings! I already had that figured out. AI = different but equal, be nice and respectful and **** like Skynet won't happen.

    oh wow, you're right, my bad... =x

    I guess it's well known that it's OK when ROBOTS are being shot into billions of pieces - just as long as it's not people... that's how video games managed to fit in so much violence even in kids' games for so long...

    it's a shame they'll have to use PG13 language though. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I think there's more to it than that... it was a question of what constitutes a soul... when does a modified person become just a machine? when does a machine become a person? what's the difference between the two? and if there is none, does that mean people are no more important than machines?

    Actually it was more along the lines of what constitues a god and what if an AI was capabable of making a soul. When an AI has the power to create life undistinguishable from a human being is it a new stage of evolution, where does that leave humans, do we have a right to stop it, etc., etc.

    Pretty cool concept no real answers though but it makes for a very fun debate while ston- never mind <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    but you basically said the same thing I did =P except for the god part, I do think it's more about evolution than religion...

    as for whether we'd have the right to stop them - well, if it's about evolution, then yeah - survival of the fittest. eliminate threats to your own species, etc...

    The only eleven-year-old I see here is you. The theme of the movie is primarily the question of the existence of a soul/ghost in a machine. The depth and seriousness of the movie could leave an analytical writer busy for weeks, but it's easy to dismiss all that when you're actively looking for a Matrix themed story. Robot revolution played almost no part in the movie.

    well said. The word God in Japanese culture doesn't refer to the same monotheistic, all-powerful being that Western society has come to associate it with. I'm not sure of the details though, someone want to fill me in?

    edit: the debate over AI rights, souls, and technology is being discussed <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=80651&st=40' target='_blank'>here</a>. There's a lot more to the subject then what it may seem.

    That's not what I was looking for. I just found the whole thing to be moot because of my pre-existing belief that anything that is sentient has a soul. Replacing body parts with mechanical components does not make you any less human. However, I really can't comment on machines having souls; I'm an atheist. So, I wasn't saying that I didn't understand what was going on - I was saying that I had already decided what I thought about the subject matter before I saw the movie.

    Oh, and I'm not eleven, you don't know what you're talking about.

    One last thing: I despise the Matrix.

    I've never heard anyone say the show was not good. Ever. Seriously, most people I've talked to love the show, even if they didn't like the movie so much.

    Cept for the one guy whose sole reason for the show sucking was the Major not getting naked...

    And for those worried about the PG-13 rating, GITS:SAC, if rated, would probably fall along a PG-13 rating too. Just because there isn't tons of cursing and nudity doesn't mean it sucks...

    Hope the movie has tons of Tachicoma...

    The series is very good. I feel it's better than the film since it has more time to develop the plot, even though comparing them doesn't exactly work. If you like the movie, you'll love the series.

    And I'm not sure if GITS:SAC would get PG-13. The whole "red shirts" episode was pretty grusome. That and and the effect of sniper bullet that hit one important character (no spoilers) would probably bring SAC above the PG-13 line.
