There are many topics here asking about good mods &c, but they all seem to be multiplayer. Since I'm a poor little modemer just about the only online games I can play are HL mods, so that's no use to me.

What I'm hoping for is a bunch of links to neato single-player mods (be they full mods, or simply maps to play through), since I just played the faboo map AECanyon and am hungering for more. Not necessarily Far Cry stuff though - if you know of any good custom SP content for any game then link away, brothers and sisters!

ugh. Hated it with a burning passion. Got rave reviews though, so I must've missed something. Acid Arena was pretty fun if you were into a frighteningly trippy Quake 3 arena (w/ bots).

    <a href='http://acidarenaweb.free.fr/' target='_blank'>Link</a> (Quake 3 not actually required IIRC)

    try <a href='http://www.hangar16.com/Features/Reviews.htm' target='_blank'>hanger16</a> and <a href='http://tenfourmaps.telefragged.com/php/main.php' target='_blank'>ten four</a> lots of reviews at those sites.

    personal favorites are:

    1. Heart of Evil

    2. Timeline series

    3. Nuclear Winter

I recommend <a href='http://www.counter-life.net' target='_blank'>Counter-Life</a> . Before you get distraught because it's CS-ish, it's HL singleplayer with CS weapons. I was actually looking for a new version for a bit, since the one on my computer doesn't have the galil and stuff yet.

It does actually end up being pretty fun - although the aw/m makes it a bit easy if you use it (well, it did before, the damage might be lowered in this version).

Just click on download, and it should be fairly easy to figure out how to get it.

On another note, I'm working on a map just to run around and shoot stuff in. I can send that out if you want to play it...although it was designed for only my use, hence it has NS textures in it.

Look for the Quantum Leap project, or if you can't find that, look for Parallax by WhoMe. Excellent map. Also, I had some fun with the ActionHL SP maps "kosovo" and "kosovo_2" -- they're just gruntfests, but they're challenging because of AHL's increased damage system.

    run quake mods as follows:
goto "run" and say... c:\quake\winquake.exe -game (mod name)

Slightly related to my suggested mod and custom models, but: how can I mirror a weapon? I download some, and they always end up on the left-handed side instead of the right. Some come witha v_model_r.mdl kind of model, and then I can switch them, but I don't think I should need to do this.

So, is there a way I can switch individual models in single player, or a program that will be able to open them, mirror them and put them back in the game?

If you can find a working download, Sweet Half-Life is one of my favorite mods, ever. It is completly underrated, and hardly anyone knows about it, but it has one thing that very few HL mods have. Two diffrent paths through the game and an ending for each. It also has two new bosses coded from scratch, new enemies, weapons, and an anime girl who has this thing about breaking you out of sticky situations, and of course, scientists in HEV suits using tau guns and rocket launchers.

If you can find it, try it.

<a href='http://farm.muddasheep.com/hq2/hq2.shtml' target='_blank'>Half-Quake: Amen</a>. Best sp mod ever. (Yes, it's a HL mod. No, it has absolutely nothing to do with Quake)

I haven't tried Sweed Half-Life, but i loved Peaces Like Us. I guess I'll have to give it a try.

    Or should we ever get ourselves a hold of it, a certain <a href='http://www.hl-nightwatch.net/' target='_blank'>other</a> HL SP episode...? <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Thanks all - but almost all of these are HL mods (which isn't necessarily a bad thing). How about other games?

You could try the Evolutions mod for Freelancer, if multiplayer space combat is your game. Lots of fun, though it seriously ramps up the speed and difficulty!

I'm sure DOOManiac would suggest this but get Sims 2
