The marines were before us...

...and we ate their brains. yummy.
After getting back from another game, I actually saw (and partially lead) our way to the first Kharaa victory I've participated in. And I have to admit, a lot of the tactics that I picked up on this forum really helped.

First of all... we spread out. This might not seem important, but any good infestation requires a lot of places for the marines to have to worry about. Make them worry about what the hell is going to be around the next corner. Throw up a trio of offense and a trio of defense turrets somewhere for the hell of it. Web the area in front of it... I had my best experiences in this game playing support for the more... offensive minded players. I played as a Gorge and a Lurk when I did the most good, although I did join in the final, frenzied Ornos charge at the end.

The big thing is that we got people into every Hive right at the beginning - took over the resource nodes, and set up defenses. I rather liked the 3 offense turret / 2 defense turret combo myself - as a Gorge, I just sat back, healed the offense turrets from time to time, and watched as the marines died horribly as they charged. Howver, the big thing I did was completely by accident - when I took over a resource node right around the corner from the entrance to the Marine Base. Which had offense turrets that fired at them whenever they walked out.

The typical 20 turret defense was in place, but we actually did rather well against it - several charges by Ornos, backed by Fade Bile Bomb bombardments and myself and one other as Lurks using Umbra clouds in the doorway (to screen the fades and ourselves) and firing poison clouds into the base and against the door to add to the confusion and cover our escape when we fell back to the nearby defense chambers, completely annialated the marine defenses within a few minutes. A lot of marines just don't get it when an umbra cloud is fired - they blaze away with their ammunition, and wonder why we don't die. In the meantime, they choke on toxic gases or are dissolved by acidic bile.

Eventually as they weakened, more and more of our Ornos broke into their base and tore apart their buildings. Eventually the marines tried to make one last stand, but they were unable to resist as we plunged into the base and devoured them, generally wrecking everything in the process.

All in all, a fun game.

Glad to see some people are actually taking our advice and learning how to play the game.

Your chamber defenses are only good until I get my hands on a grenade launcher

But yes, I do think that the first thing the skulks should do is go and stop marines from building resource collectors. Hiding on the ceiling over a nozzle and ambushing them would be a great way to ruin their day. After that, when you have the resources, evolve and build a resource tower. Then "devolve" back into a skulk to effectively defend it and harass the marines as they spend precious time trying to root you out. It helps if you know the map, and can find your way to the resource nozzles near the marine base. Which I don't
