    ... more polys doesn't make a model better

    the object is to get the job done with the least amount of polys. just because a computer is capable of handing more polys doesn't mean that you should be wasteful and put in as many as possible.

    besides anything decent looking can be skinned on like 90% of the time. especially in the HL engine

    I would be happy to skin it if someone converts it into a .mdl file. It does look nice though, although the first thing I though of was a def tower, it is still kewl and a nice skin would destroy all resemblances (good or bad <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> )

    Shesh, I've just taken a look at the armoury and it's not split into groups at all.

    Ah well, I'll probably hack away at it today. By the looks of it you only need to map a third of the model then it has rotational symettry so you lay the rest on top of the existing stuff.

    Right, I've regrouped it all, possibly splitting things down into more groups than is needed, but it's easier to combine groups that to split them up.

    Anyways, here's a zipped 3ds file of the new groupings. My head now hurts so I won't be doing the mapping yet, anyone else feel free to carry on with this.

    Edit: I also deleted a few faces that would never be seen, hope that's ok Funky. PC is now 444.

    It's very nice. And honestly more polies does not=high quality so you are fine there. I can tell this model can be widely used from everything to low end machines all the way up to high end machines. Good Job Mintman on regrouping it, and dill, glad to see you are still posting ^_^.

    Mini update. I've mapped about a quarter of the model, taking the time to eliminate as much stretching as possible which is a right bastard I can tell you. Might edit this post in a minute with a picture so you can see what I've done so far.
