Ping Of Servers 1000 Then 2000?

Whenever I click the FIND SERVERS then select any servers.. this window with the map, game, ping, and players would pop up.. then within 2 -3 secs, I see the ping of the server jumps up to 1000+ from 100 or so, then jumps to 2000.. WTH?
