How Long Is It Before Ns Will Get Fully Backed...

I was just wondering if the Dev's had a basic time in mind, that will mean NS will be offical on the steam list. I thought this was ment to be coming, but obviously over a steam update, it didnt function correctly.

If and when this is accomplished, do you plan to bring out, small fast updates for NS, ie so when one of the devs fixes a bug, it can be uploaded to the steam master servers, and then the clients download it? As this would stop files having to be hosted, like Beta5

Or will you go the other way about things, and do big updates at a time?

Just wanted to know for curiosity

Thanks, Jas

When 3.0 is done, I think it's going to be released over steam. After that, steam will take care of the updating and downloading as it does with other games.

(I'm not 100% on that one, however.)

hopefully the stream technology availible from steam would allow for balance to be a stronger focus outside of major patches :S

The word from Flayra is that he has contacted valve about getting NS delivered over steam. The ball's pretty much in thier court and at the moment they're very busy with getting Half-Life 2 out the door.

    Be patient, it's coming.

I'm beginning to think the browse game list is what steam has had in mind the entire time :/

it'd be.. a lot better, that way.

like this latest release, beta 5. it's got some new stuff in it, but the majority are small bug fixes and minor changes to maps, etc. as well as minor additions.

these things being added in over time little by little would be a lot easier on the sanity of the public.

I think a lot of people had the misconception that beta 5 would deliver some significant gameplay changes to the game, and well.. it just didn't. it has a lot of much-needed fixes included, but at the same time it's almost disappointing, considering it doesn't do any major thing to make the game seem different (some would even say "fixed").

Really devs please just release a patch that only does the following:
o Turrets damage reduced to 4
    o Fades HP/Armor changed to 500/50
o Skulks HP increased to 90

Come on how long would that take? It would help balance out a lot.

Why nerf 2hive fades? Fades go down easy enough already if they make one little mistake.

Yes I'm dead serious. 2 hive aliens in B4A were unstoppable with the exception of HA which required an Onos and then it was rape. I haven't gotten to try out the new JP much in B5 (my connect is screwed right now) but I expect it shouldn't be too hard for skulks to kill them still. Overwhelm, clusterf_ck, umbra, gas, fades, a bunch of skulks leaping in, plus the real fast spawn rate is just way too much for marines (short of HA) to handle. The only time marines have a chance to win when the 2nd hive goes up (at least when the aliens are coordinated at all) is when they have a bunch of nodes, and an advanced armory. If they don't have those... it's pretty much game over.

Of course, you probably don't experience the same game as I do, since pubs generally have horrible skulks... and no lerk gas/umbra'ing, and incompetent fades, and skulks that go in one at a time and die, and no teamwork.

The ironic thing is that pubbers call clanners no teamwork ramboes, when the level of teamwork in clanplay is much much MUCH higher than in pubs

but again, I'm absolutely dead serious. Once the 2nd hive goes up, aliens will win at least 80-95% of coordinated, skilled games. Even if they only have 1 node.

The aliens win so often now becouse of the map changes, commandig is verry much based on experience, so the comms need time to adapt.
I can say that JP's really beat the **** out of aliens since they can't even be stomped by onos. JP rushes are common again and work almost every time.

And i still don't get it why "leap skulks > all", i mean when the aliens have a second hive, marines should really spend some res on armor/weapon ups and some weapons.
You can be owned by skulks when you are alone, but not in a shoty team.

    -edit-
    typo

no a shotty team won't get owned by leap skulks alone (although it could easily, 4 leap skulks vs 2 shotties could go either way) but it will get owned hard by constant gas (making them weld or making them 2bite fodder), 2 fades going in with umbra and silence skulks leaping in. It's absolutely ridiculous how effective teamwork is with 2 hive aliens

Good lerks can be dangerous for bad jetpackers, but hell you have an hmg in your hands!
If you have kinda bad players, the HA is the better solution if they have no ohnoes.

Well one problem with constant bug fixes is that they have to be playtested... To make sure that there isnt some unforseen consequence to the fix... But I would loev to see 3rd party mod support on steam.

Some of the stuff i was reading about HL2 implied upgrades to steam that would allow 3rd party mods to charge people for thier game, this to me also implies that they can be downloaded over steam...

Highly unlikely at this point. NS is the intellectual property of Charlie Cleveland, who also happens to own Unknown Worlds Entertainment. Seeing that Valve prefers to do its work in-house, and that Charlie went at quite some lengths to get full artistic freedom (such as, say, quitting his job at Stainless and creating the fourthmost popular HL mod), I wouldn't hold my breath for any bigger monetary transactions between Valve and him - unless they decide to get into the publishing business with the dough HL2 will earn them.
