<div class="IPBDescription">Should I?</div> I've considering installing the latest Omega Drivers
for my Radeon 9800 Pro because of some Softimage|XSI
performace problems that are apparently caused by OpenGL.

Does anyone if the OpenGL files/code/whatever is much better
than the official ATi release?

Do the Omega's run Doom 3 okay?

    Omega are in fact the same drivers as their catalyst counterparts, the only differance is that they are tweaked to get the maximum performance.
    You'll probably get way more performance using omega then the catalyst drivers, go for it <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    capt morgan told me that omega can cause problems unless you really know how to use it right and omega is best with use for emulators like ePSXe, get omega if your reeealy sure you can tweak it for best preformance and that you know everything about your gfx card.

    there is no need to tweak them since they are pretweaked by a 'professional' who knows what hes doing <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> Sure you can try and tweak them youself to but it isnt nescesary

    Hmm i'm starting to swing towards these Omega's.
    Anyone got any comments on Doom 3 performance?

    I'll probably install them to try XSI|Softimage on
    and if they don't help then i'll complete Doom 3 and
    roll back to the Catalyst 4.3's. (Which i <b>know</b> to
    be working fine with XSI|Softimage 3.5)

    I definitely like the Omega's better, increased my performance in HL and other games like PlanetSide and DooM 3.

    Same here. I find Doom 3 runs a lot better on my 9600 Pro. I've been using them for a while now.

    Plus you got acess to options you might not normally have. For example, I cannot put AA, AF or VSynch on my laptop with the manufacturer's driver - but I can with the Omegas.

    OK they pass the XSI|Softimage (Hooray, I can make character
    models for Half-Life 2 again..... Woohoo!).
    I'm gonna go test Doom 3 ;-)
    Wish me luck!

    i use omega drivers for my ti4600... right now it's competing with my bro's 9800pro (unless HE'S using omega drivers too <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> )

    Doom 3 performance has (sadly) gone through the floor <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
    I didn't change any settings and continued from my last
    save point but firing any gun seemed to throw the frames
    per second down to that of a slide-slow. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    When I installed these drivers I had a prompt on-screen
    asking about OpenGL drivers. The options were something
    to do with:
    "Special - For Counter-Strike players, great performance
    but may have some difficulties with the newer games."

    With a new build of Natural-Selection being released I went
    for those drivers. I might un-install, clean-up, re-install and
    go for whatever is recommended for newer games.

    Check your start menu - there is a tool that will swap your ogl drivers in a flash without the need to uninstall.
